Anyone else get a weird clicking/clanking sound when slowing down? Today has been the first time since I got my TB that I have been able to drive with windows down and AC off. At least three times, as I am slowing down to about 10mph, I get this loud clank sound coming from under the truck somewhere.

It always does it as I am slowing down and at about 10-15mph area.

I have a Custom TB if that matters.

I get a very low sound clicks when moving at 10mph or less while turning the wheel, assuming its the steering shaft bearing. but i have no idea. i do not want the dealer to rip apart my dash for something like this.

LOL I hear ya. Mine is definitely not from inside the truck, it's from underneath the truck, towards the front end.

I am taking mine in today to get the bed aligned and I may bring this up since they are going to keep it for a few days.

I too have heard this clicking noise for months now.  Sounds like a CV Joint going bad type of clicking.  None of my boots are ripped or leaking so can't really tell.  And it only happens when I am turn the wheel and a very slow speed, like when I'm backing into the garage or a parking spot.

Is the sound occurring when the transmission is downshifting - meaning does the sound coincide with any feeling of downshifting?

I do not believe so. I will test this more today after work since I am already taking the truck to the dealership to get my bed aligned properly.

The two times it did it, I was slowing down, but not to a full stop, and at around the 10-15 mph mark, I hear a CLANK. Did it twice at least.

The second time I was in a parking garage and it was LOUD. Both times I was going in straight line, not turning.

If it is related to tranny, what could that mean? The sound is like when a AC compressor kicks in. That type of sound. (My AC was off)

So messing with it after work.

It does it almost everytime I take off from a stop, does it when I reach around 40mph, and also as I am slowing down and hits around 10mph.

Faint clicking.

If you pop it into 4wd, does it still make the noise?

Very good question. I haven't tried that yet.

It's at the dealership now for a bed alignment, and I also told them about this. So I am driving a loaner for now.

What are you thinking it is if it doesn't do it in 4wd?

I just saw that you have the 6 speed tranny - nevermind.  My previous truck had the 5.3/8 speed which I traded for my 2019 Denali & I seem to recall hearing it shift on occasion - a faint clink if I had the windows down & driving near retaining walls or heavily wooded areas (where sound could bounce back towards truck).  If the dealer can hear the sound, I'd ask them to throw chassis ears on it to try & find from where it's coming if they don't do it on their own.

I was able to replicate it for the service advisor, so they definitely know its there.

A buddy had an '08 Sierra that would make a minor clicking/clanking noise in 2wd, but not in 4wd. The tech determined that the front prop shaft and u-joints had a little bit of play that caused some minor chatter, and having it in 4WD put enough tension on the  drive-line to stop the chatter. It wasn't extreme so he learned to live with it.

Reading UncleDave's responses, the thread below comes to mind.

Hard to say because everyone has a little different way of describing sounds.  I had a loaner that did it - sounded like a ting ting ting (very small rocks pining off of metal) and would go away when pressing the 4WD button.  There's a video showing an owner grabbing his bell housing and moving the shaft enough to make a noise.  Seems to be a fix for it recently.  Only affects certain front axle RPO codes (SU4 I believe).

my 19 LTZ clunks every down shift.  Dealer says normal LOL... Sometimes when I go it doesnt down shift and shutters as well.  Normal I am told.

So picking up my TB tomorrow. According to dealership the clicking sound was a lose wire harness that was rubbing. Apparently there is a TSB for it.

They also corrected the alignment on my bed.

Will report back tomorrow when I pick it up.

Thanks all.
