Anyone use their truck as a mobile hot spot? I’ve got a place in the boonies where I want to periodically stream a football game thru YouTube TV onto a real TV and wondering if using my truck’s hotspot is a feasible way to do it

i got an email offering unlimited data for $15/mo

ive used phone mobile hotspot to stream games before and it worked well as long as I had a decent signal

Why not just use your phone, then?

I really don't see the novelty of the truck hotspot when my wife and I each have a phone we can hotspot from. Why pay an extra $$$ per month to power some wifi devices when I can do it with my phone(s)?

Yeah my phones are Verizon and I’m thinking ATT had better reception in the 2 places I’m thinking of. $15/mo for unlimited data seems too cheap to pass up at least trying

On AT&T you get throttled after a certain level. I did some research on my cell phone bill. I come out better by going to a 6 Gig plan on my phone and doing unlimited on the truck. Saves me 40 bucks a month doing that.

To test out this bad boy I did a road trip this past weekend and streamed Netflix for the kids tablets in the back the whole time and it never dropped once in 3 hours. 6 Gigs of data gone just that quick. My phone would be burning hot trying to stream that long.

I have a 15 Sierra and just tried the 15 dollar unlimited data. I have to say very impressive, I streamed pandora, wife on Facebook and my boys playing games downloading games and watching videos. Worked flawlessly.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. In my experience as a LONG-time AT&T user, there are a lot of places where VZW is much better.

Last year, I was at Texas Motor Speedway for a NASCAR race and I had to hotspot off my brother's VZW iPhone just to get my AT&T phone to be able to connect to the internet.

YMMV.

I live in an area that we do not have cable or DSL yet and I use AT&T hotspots as my primary internet connections.  I just got the same $15.00 / month offer and will buy it.  AT&T does throttle back after you use 20GB of data per month, which seams high but if you have kids, you will know how fast you can blow thru that.  Anyone tried using the WIFI outside of the truck like in a camp ground, just wondering what the distance is approximately away from the truck.  My last K2XX did not have it.

Yeah.

It doesn't work unless the key is on. It reaches about 20 feet away from the truck with my MacBook pro.

I feel like you would do far better to wire in a cell booster into the truck and use your cell package.

Up here in Canada Onstar charges crack money for their “hotspot” feature. I didn’t use it once during the free trial and can’t justify it going forward.
