Hey Guys,   sorry if this is in the wrong place (forum), new guy here, trying to find information on this code error.    P0307 #7 Misfire with Oil Fouled Plug

Was told by my local GM Dealer - that they would NOT rebuild the engine, and that they would only "replace" the engine with this issue...well over $7,000 to do this!    My #7 plug is "Fouled"...causing the mis-fire and is in fact leaking oil. Unfortunately, my truck (2014 Suburban 5.3L 4wd ) has 86,000 miles on it - and NOT under Powertrain Warranty!            Any advice?? thanks - John

Did they do any diagnosis? I mean it could be bad head, bad valve seal (like non existent if it fouls the plug) ,the piston, or the piston rings. None of those would be an entire engine job. Maybe find a local engine rebuilder and see what they say.

Issue is what you have vs what is wrong and prices to get back to what you had.
Example is dealer wants $7k or more. Low mile engine stock is 3k. That is a Win. Or it can be oil from heads still less then 7k to swap out.
If it was me i would get the used engine cheap and take your engine out and tear it down. No matter what you have a engine to replace it with.
Just seen local to me l83 engine tran and harness and computer for $3500.

I've had that happen to my Denali. I had the same code. I replaced my plug wires (set) and spark plugs. The issue went away. Try that first. As far as the leaking oil try cleaning away all the evident oil then have someone tap the gas peddle in park and see if you can identify where it is coming from. It may be an easier fix than just purchasing and swiping a motor.

If the dealer is telling him he needs a new engine, I imagine there’s more to this story than we are hearing, like...how often has the oil been changed? What’s the overall condition of the engine? Are there other documented issues?

and I agree with what another poster said, but a low mileage used engine for $3,000 and have it installed. Done. Rather do that than try and fix an engine that the dealer is telling him it needs replacement.

I usually don’t take what a dealership says at face value. If anything I would take it to a mechanic shop or performance shop for a second opinion. Then make a decision.

Fair enough. And I have seen situations where people have been told “replace the engine”, because of that spark plug fouling from oil, and the person was able to drive the truck several more years.
