Upgrading a turbo engine was-is the easiest. All that’s required is a tune. We use to do our diesels routinely. Sure we had to do transmission work if we went too high on the horsepower. To avoid slipping and going into fail safe mode. I’ve seen truck shows with a hand held tune they’d get 100 HP out of an eco- boost. The trick I’m reading these days is unlocking the computer.

There’s many things that can be done before we do an aftermarket turbo. It’s a pretty unique design on the factory turbo. I think for any turbo manufacturer to consider making anything aftermarket this engine is going to have to be around for a bit and maybe even find its way in to the mid size twins. We don’t know the limitations on the engine. Down pipe, intake, front mount intercooler and e85 tune would be a good place to start. Unfortunately the only thing aftermarket out there right now is the AFE intake which isn’t out till December or January

Until you exceed the max power the OEM turbo can support there is no need to upgrade it. Before I went to replacing the OEM turbo I would be looking for a tune that allows you to increase boost pressure and also re-tune for the increased boost and any other mods you have done.

I’ve already gone ahead and swapped out the muffler on mine went with just a resonator at first but it sounded like a shitty Tacoma. The turbo on the other hand was screaming. Loved that part but ended up swapping for a magnaflow and now it sounds proper and still frees up the turbo. I’m currently waiting for my AFE intake to come in and then will be working with a local fab shop on the down pipe. Holding off till I see what the AFE tuner can do.

Update the first batch of air intakes from AFE have a ship date of feb 28th 2020. They are having difficulties cracking the ECU code for the tuners so no word on that of now.

Yep, I called them yesterday actually and was told the same date. I pre-ordered mine 9/6 so it’s been a long wait lol

Hopefully AFE comes out with a down pipe with a high flow cat

I’ve also reached out to turbo smart about a BOV. They’ve said if anyone is in the San Diego they need a vehicle to develop one. I move out there this summer but if anyone is out that way hit them up.

Where did you order your magnaflow from?

I just went to the performance exhaust shop in the Palmetto FL area called exhaust solutions. I told them I wanted more flow for the turbo and wasn’t interested in trying to get a loud sound. They chopped the exhaust valve and welded in the new muffler. I left the stock resonator on as well. I’ll take some photos and upload when I get a chance.

Oo ok thanks man yeah I've always went with magnaflow on my past trucks. I just didn't know if they had any full exhaust kits for the 2.7 yet. I like carven exhaust too. One of my buddies has carven on his truck but his is the 5.3 and and sounds awesome

So still waiting for my intake from AFE. supposed to be shipped out on Friday but while I was looking for the contact number to call them I saw that there is a pre order for a hi flow down pipe. Don’t have $700 to spend right now but if anyone is looking for one you should go check it out.

Good news!!!  AFE intake came in. Installed and test drove it. Turbo sounds like it spools up sooner and feels more responsive but I’ll have to get back after a little more time with it.

    • I find it amusing the OP doesn’t realize this threads heading includes several engines. He should have posted in the off topic section if he wanted a more narrow focus. I really appreciate and find amusing that he actually pointed out one of my many vehicles. The Odyssey. That happens to use 0-20 oil. I love pushing his buttons.
    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
