Door flexing

Recommended Posts

Ive noticed a potential problem in the door design of my 2020 3500HD

The doors like to swing open full and it can be difficult to keep that from happening, especially for passengers not thinking about it.

When the door swings open, the middle bracket is connected to a thin molded body panel.  I can see the panel flexing in and out with the bolt.   At some point, this has to cause fatigue and failure...unless the bolt has a serious support on the other side I cant see.

Anyone else noticed this?

Are you talking about the hinges flexing (or where they mount to), or the door stop/hold bracket.  If it's the door stop bracket, then it's fine.

Ill have to take a pic.  Its not the upper and lower hinges, Its whatever little bracket is in the middle bolted to the frame.   I can see the body warp as the door opens fully and comes to rest.

Yeah, I thought the same thing on my 15. 180k later and still no problems. The doors were opened a lot over this time!
