From 3.42 to 3.73 or 4.10

Well, the trick here is to find axles with those gears already in them.  So, if you wanted 3.73 gears, you would look at the old 4-speed SUVs, the 2007-2008 Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche, Yukon and XL.  Still have to check their RPO sheet as they had more variations then the later models.

Now as a plus, you can upgrade your rear axle to the 9.5 semi-floater, RPO AXN, which was found behind RWD trucks with 6.0 and 6.2 motors.  However, most of them will have 3.42 gears.

I might do the same thing someday, if I go with a 34" tire or for a little more oompf while towing.  My plan is to change the gears myself but also want to put a 9.5 out back as we also like to drag race and play in the mud with it once in a while.

With that engine and tire size you need/want 4.10's at a minimum. I wouldn't even consider 3.73's.

Yes, a shop could do the calibration change for you. Or a local person with a tuner, this option may be cheaper.
