Bed Cover or Toolbox

Neither, get your bed sprayed if it's not already and get a nice glossy finish. 

 

Tool box you lose a foot minimum of your bed (if you have a crew cab you now have a 4 Foot bed) and a cover you lose the functionality of having a bed in the first place. Not to mention they just look better without either... buy some coilovers with the money if you want something to improve your truck...

I went with an undercover ultraflex tri fold hard cover.  Keeps the bed dry but folds almost completely out of the way for bed use if needed.

If u live in the country and work with the truck then a tool box is handy.   Open bed is more convenient for constant work.  Toolbox keeps gear secure and dry. 

 

Living in the city, a bed cover wins hands down.  Keeps all the riffraff from seeing what's in your bed.   And keels your stuff dry.  Ever since my 2003 avalanche I have been a bed cover convert.  Just get a trunk or box to keep gear in.  Swing cases are nice but I dont like the mounting for them on the 19s. 

 

If u plan to use your bed a lot the roll up soft covers are nice because they get completely out of the way.

That's a great looking box! And being a Craftsman, it probably didn't cost an arm and a testicle either.

Roll up - lockable hard cover and a sidekick tool box. Unless you work out of your truck daily, than a tool box.

It was reasonable from Lowe’s. I had a tractor supply one on my old truck. This one was a bit deeper.

Last truck had a canopy, this truck I went with a tool box.

Canopy was great for hauling all my tools around but now I’m getting off the tools and doing more management duties which involves a lot more material hauling.

Still need basic tools though, hated having them damage my interior bouncing around the back seat area!

Went with the deepest/widest cross box I could find while still being able to slide material such as plywood in.

Box sits off the bed about 10”

It’s a UWS box, good quality.  Paid $900 Canadian for it.

Everyone I know that has a tonneau cover hates it.

Canopy was good for organization but was a bitch to crawl into.

Those high roof work vans are probably the best if you’re looking to haul tools around.

I will never have a truck without a tonneau. I have a Bak Revolcer X4 on my AT4. I also added a couple of storage boxes that a local truck accessories place has started making. They sit above the wheel well and mount at the same points where the tonneau does. They don’t stick out any further than the wheels wells so not losing any bed length or width really. Perfect for recovery gear, jumper cables, bungees, whatever. Only down side is they are open on top since they are meant to be used with a tonneau with the tonneau acting as the lid so If you need to drive with the tonneau open you won’t want anything in them that’s light enough to fly out. It’s been a perfect solution for me though.
