come on here to look stuff up, ask questions and help others.

This is a great forum to exchange knowledge and experiences.  Pictures give me lots of ideas.  Sometimes they even help prevent an idea from happening!

Great to see a truck in its natural state!  I've lived in places where this is as clean as my truck would get for much of the year.  I'd wash the truck in my yard and you wouldn't be able to tell after my first ride!

Thanks man. This was on the way back from a trip to New Hampshire. She was already rusty on the front steering components and small frame areas, but the salt didnt help any so I washed her off as soon as I could. Now shes just dirty lol. I built her to be used, dirt be damned.

It appears there is some interested. I think more guys would jump in once we get an official thread going.  I might just start up a new thread like txab said. I'd put it up Feb 1st and try it out for a month see what happens. Any truck qualifies. Mild to Wild. Should probably keep it to K2's only though. No poll needed. Just throw the pics up and let everyone pick what they like. I can backtrack at the end of the month and count who got the most votes. Easy.

No prizes just bragging rights. If it goes good maybe I'll come up with something cool. I have a few things sitting around I could give away. Not a big deal to me.

This whole deal is just to see what guys like in a truck. What's popular. Nothing more.

IMO, if we do it the same way, we'll achieve the same or similar results.  "Truck of the Month" will not be seen as an achievable goal for those with everyday normal trucks no matter how we sugar coat the competition.  I am all for setting up an opportunity for everyone to proudly submit pictures and to be able to brag about their trucks.  I believe we may have better luck attracting participation by a monthly or weekly theme or category.   I know threads have had some success by calling for photo submissions by colour of truck.   Maybe calling for pictures of trucks that fall into a category like year, cab/bed configuration,  lifted, lowered, non-original paint, original, hidden engine upgrades,  etc. etc. would encourage participation.   I am keen on the initiative and respectfully offering my thoughts. I will participate as I have done in the past.   One day I may win a participation ribbon! ?

When you start narrowing down to specific details you are limiting the amount of participants. I think every month should be a free for all any truck as long as it's a 2014-2018 1500. That way when a guy makes some changes to his truck he is going to want to show everyone so here you go. I been looking around in my garage and I have some stuff to give away I don't need. So there will be giveaways to the winner.  Might work might not.

I'm going to start a thread now to see how it goes. We can run it from now until Jan 31. See what happens.

I got a prize already picked out.

Go back to 2014-2018 main page to find it and enter your truck.

One year we tried a different year model group. Like January was K2 trucks February gmt900 etc. so many ways to go but the work involved was always way more than the interest

This is K2 only. I think we will have enough interest. I have a lot of prizes so that might help.
We'll see soon enough.

The examples of details I suggested were single broad categories and were intended to give minimal structure.  They were also intended to keep the discussion going and help generate ideas to help this project succeed. A contest with no guidelines except a 5 year span of build dates might be too broad for a contest.  For a worker to become Employee of the Month there are more guidelines than date of birth.  Maybe, if all participants were entered into a random draw to win one of your prizes, you may spark more interest.  If winning a prize is determined by criteria only known to you then I suspect some hesitation.  Or, if you put it up for a vote based on pictures, most of us already know  our chances.  Knowing that all entries have an equal chance will reduces the excuses not to enter. Also, knowing that your truck needs to fit into a certain category for this week/month may provide incentive.   I believe adding some structure and changes will enhance chances for greater success.  Good luck on this project.

    • Progress... sort of.   Intake is disassembled, spider is out, fuel lines removed. Used a torch on the stripped screw with the lower intake off, much easier when I've got the intake sitting on my workbench, I made it talk. Walked right out with a pair of vice grips once it was nice and toasty hot.   New parts are piling up on my service cart waiting to be installed. Distributor, temperature sensor, new gaskets, fuel line kit, themostat, water neck.   My new pickle is I don't want to spend $600 on a replacement spider. I'm not sure IT is bad. I'm probably splitting hairs. Or it's $300 to send mine away and another 3 weeks of the truck just sitting. I have half a mind to assemble everything with the old spider to see if I can get away with just replacing the fuel pressure regulator to be safe. The obvious issue was the gushing high pressure fuel line which will be replaced. Getting to the spider really isn't that hard, and now I know what I'm doing , swapping it would be a breeze should it absolutely need one. Stupid, or smart?   The part that gives me pause is replacing the distributor. Well, it's already out. And I didn't mark it, whoopsie! Engine was at TDC when I removed it, I know that, so upon correct reinstall the metal tip on the rotor should point to the TDC mark on the distributor because that's where it was pointing on the old distributor. Worst case I'm a tooth off and have to re-stab it.   But then, what? I assume the truck will start. It doesn't appear the timing can be set. Here's the problem: These distributors can't be rotated but a degree or two, by design. What I read is Cam ****** needs to be -2 to +2 degrees, ideally at 0 (and checked/set above 1000 rpm). There should be enough wiggle to get that properly set, but checking the reported value is another potential issue. My Actron 9185 scanner says it supports enhanced GM PIDs and Cam ****** is one of them but it's unclear that I'll be able to correctly see it over OBD 1.5. I can see why people end up junking these things with life left in them. They're an absolute nightmare with tweener-year diagnostics/electronics and unobtanium parts.   Fingers crossed it starts and idles nicely. There can be hope, right? I'ma buy a lottery ticket the same day just in case.   Next steps..DO IT. I have not installed an intake before so I've been reading and watching a lot. Some say NO RTV except on china walls, some say DO RTV on water ports but not fuel/air intake. 1/4 or 3/8 bead on China walls? I think my strategy will be, obviously, RTV china walls with overlap on the gasket corners. Chapstick-style RTV the water ports. Leave intake ports dry. The only set of intake gaskets I could find locally are Edelbrock performance gaskets (uh...for an asthmatic 190hp V6? LOL) so we'll see how they do.   #NoToolLeftBehind. It took an hour, but my recovery mission for my deep 10mm socket was successful. It had rolled down the bellhousing and wedged itself between what I think are the fuel lines? I couldn't see it at all, but with a junk antenna I had laying around, I blindly went poking/sweeping for it, heard it clink, raised the truck, and caught a sliver glimpse of chrome with a flashlight way up there in Narnia. I had pushed it farther along the lines holding it captive, but within access of severely improvised tools, poking and cursing at it to finally knock it free to where I could get a fingertip on it to bring it home.    Not much to see.
