Before you get too excited, a new 2500 HD w/ Duramax and 10 spd. will put out more axle torque in the first few gears:

 

910 lb-ft x 4.54 (first gear ratio) x 3.42 (axle ratio) = 14,129 lb-ft

This doesn't take into account driveline losses, so we'll knock it down 15%

14,129 lb-ft x 0.85 = 12,010 lb-ft.

This doesn't take into account torque multiplication in the torque converter.  I don't quite understand the sorcery behind torque converters, but you can just about double that number.

 

In any case, more than enough to melt the tires.

 

The nice thing about electric motors, though, is that the axle torque will remain constant throughout RPM and no shifting gears.  11,500 lb-ft all the time.
