MPG w/level and 33's

Tried searching but not much luck, newbie here.  

 

Just completed a 1400 mile round trip after installing height adjustable Bilstein's up front and 33" (275/60/20) Dura Trac's.  I manually calculated the MPG's using miles from GPS since the DIC is off because of the 33's.  

 

Only 14.54mpg all highway....BUT, that's with the cruise nearly always set at 88mph (per GPS), maybe 30 minutes at 95mph.  Despite driving fast I had hoped for more than that.  My average over 684 miles was 74.62 mph

 

5.3 4wd (set to 2wd).  On the bright side the truck handled fields with a fresh 7" snowfall like it was nothing!

 

Typical?  What are others seeing?

Typical.  You're going way too fast if you care at all about mpg.  Anything over 70 kills it.

Agreed. 2014 double cab 4x4 305/55/20 AT and 20x10, bils at max height 5.3, 89 OCTANE. 60mph nets 17.5mpg. 70= a tank drained quick. Sad but true.

yeah that's what I was afraid I'd here and I'd rather drive fast than squeak out MPG's.  Actually just calculated the return trip, different route of 752 miles and my average was 79.44mph.

My last truck was a 2wd 06'  Silverado SS with the 6.0 and it'd get 17mpg (with oversize tires) driving it hard through the mountains.

Well being that it was 2wd thats the reason why. Bet $100 the 2wd guys pull like 20.

And not as much frontal area up high in the wind.  And that was with more gear too, the SS had a 3.73 compared to the 3.42 in the Sierra.

Well im comparing like for like our body same lift and what not. I believe its the t case and extra diff weight.

88mph would last only a few minutes here, then it would be zero while you're pulled over lol.

That was Iowa/Kansas/Okla/Texas with a Uniden R3 (AWESOME detector), Waze and a sharp eye

80+ is very common here in TX. Not that I know anything about that. lol

Why specifically 88 mph? Do you have an affinity to "Back to the Future"? 

 

I recently put new tires on my truck along with a RC 2" level. I went one size bigger than factory to a 275/65-18. I've lost about 2 mpg roughly in my mixed driving. I took a 600 mile trip over New Years and it averaged right around 18 strictly highway where before the tires and level, it would get 22. I got 25.5 once when the truck was only weeks old. Haven't seen those numbers since. I should also mention that was with the cruise set at anywhere between 72-75 mph. As much as I like Marty, Doc, Biff and the gang, I didn't want the Ohio State Police being involved in any portion of my trip.

I have 33" tires and multiply truck miles by 1.03% (3%) to get nearly accurate GPS mileage.

I have bilstein 5100 on 3rd notch for 1.75" lift. Nearly 33" (32.8") BFG K02 Tires.

 

I can still pull down 20 - 22 if I drive 65 -68.

 

If i went your speed i'd prob get the same mpg as you.

 

On a 50 mile 2 lane road with cruise set at 58, I averaged 28 mpg.

 

As others have said speed kills mpg when you're driving a brick with the frontal area of a sheet of plywood.
