While they may use the data for helping with designing vehicles, but seeing how and where people drive, the main purpose is that they are selling it, as it makes them bundles of money.  GM may claim to only sell anonymized data, it is trivial for them to work around it by making the other company a "business partner" helping them provide this "service", so the other company gets complete access to the original, person-specific data.

 

If I were to get a newer vehicle with this stuff installed, I would make a point of cutting off every antennae connected to it.

I’m starting wonder if this can be used against us in court, for warranty related issues, traffic accidents, etc. There is a tremendous amount of data pouring out of these new trucks. I wish I knew how much a day. Curious.

Yes, it can.  As well, newer vehicles are also required to have a black box installed to record vehicle data for accidents (this is across the board, not just GM), which is also used by insurance companies/courts to assign fault, etc...

alot of our data is sold to local governents and Law enforcement,  insurance provider, civil engineering firms, not to mention App providers for smart phones. cut the gps wire on the roof!!!
