MrWeller Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 When are you planning on doing it? WE NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [emoji3]I have some hay I need to mow, rake and bale first...but if it rains, I'll pull it into the shop and work on it!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
flyingfool Posted August 19, 2020 Author Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) stand pipe is part of the re-fill proceedure on the camaro. I would just zip it off with a dremel tool, unless its used to suppor the camaro trans filter, then i would leave it and drill a few drain holes around it's base you did order the taller camaro filter right? Oh, just one more thing! About that filter.......(Columbo)
Eddie 70 Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I thought the same thing, cut that stand pipe off. Just be sure there are still some threads left in the bung.

So how do you get the fluid out of the lower part of the pan? Just asking. (That plug isn't really a 'drain')
MrWeller Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 So how do you get the fluid out of the lower part of the pan? Just asking. (That plug isn't really a 'drain') That was my first thought when I unboxed it as well. Technically, it is a drain plug. But not one that will allow you to drain the pan completely due to its location. I'm considering just getting a weld on drain plug and having my buddy at the local welding shop put it in at the lower end of the pan so it'll remove as much of the oil as possible. flyingfool Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 did you order the deep pan or is this the standard pan?
MrWeller Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Standard pan. Wasn't too sure I wanted to try a deep pan or if it would fit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
flyingfool Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 also wondering if there is a rubber gasket behind that drain bolt from GM.? i would of ordered the deep pan instead.. anyways I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

flyingfool Posted August 25, 2020 Author Posted August 25, 2020 (edited) deep pan is more for heat resistance capacity, not for ease of draining.... but I just disconnect the upper trans cooler line , and pump the fluid from this line into a bucket, then pull pan and filter. if your hard core, you'll drill and tap the torque converter for a pipe plug for more drainage Edited August 25, 2020 by flyingfool
CamGTP Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Get a might vac fluid extractor, best thing ever for doing oil changes or fluid exchanges. I can suck a hot transmission pan "dry" in a few minutes. I've done the last 3 oil changes on some of the family cars in the garage without even taking the drain plug out. 1
