For the past week we had 11 from Norway and 5 from Texas visiting.  Only three stayed at our house but all were here for visiting and meals.  It was wonderful!  The probability of exposure to Covid was high but the pleasure far exceeded the fear of getting sick.  We were exhausted after saying our goodbyes but amazed at what we accomplished hosting such a large (hungry) group.  Of course everyone helped and one or two took charge but it was still a tiring experience.  I can once again sit in front of my laptop in my pajamas with my coffee!  I miss the company but the experience helped me appreciate my time!

I tip my hat to you, not for me.

I have 20 plus during the holidays. I’m glad we do it, glad when they leave. My brother in law and sister in law stay overnight during Aggie football season. Sometimes two nights. I enjoy the visit. They’re in the process of retiring and moving to Oklahoma. We’ll probably visit them often. Those visits are pure joy. I can’t wait to help him restore his 69 Firebird. And there’s casinos on the way.

Thanks for the tip of the hat but initially I was a reluctant participant and if I was in charge .....  😉   The warm, fuzzy feeling when they leave, as Karnut mentions, is almost worth the whole experience!

I just got my blood work back from my yearly check up. I’m forced to go every year to renew my blood pressure medication. I’ve been on them since I turned 19. Genetics, runs in the family. Another thing that runs in the family is diabetes. The last couple years pre diabetes has been doing the creep. I knew eventually I would need to lose more weight and make diet changes. At 681/2 it’s here. One more year at this rate I’ll tip the scale. Other results are showing the bad habits, liver, kidneys etc. All reversible with diet and weight loss. My chart showed me the results over the weekend. So the call from the doctor is forth coming Monday. We’ve been talking about it for a few years. He’s going to say it’s time. I’m ready. And prepared. Choices are a part of life. There’re worse things.

Well Karnnut being overweight as you know is bad. On my moms side overweight was a problem for her and her brothers and sisters, there were 14 of them. My cousin died a few years back at 60, he was at 350 lbs. It's a struggle, I get that and we are prone to bad habits and weight gain as we age. I have been inactive for the last year due to sciatica and back problems, consequently I weigh more than I ever have. I have been on blood pressure meds for 5 years, Losartan. Having physical issues that limits your activity makes it tough to control your weight as you know. I'm a few years older than you so I get it.

My father got diabetes in his 70 we think. He wouldn’t go to the doctors. His mother in her 60s. My father and grandmother had episodes that put them in the hospital. That’s when they were diagnosed. I probably would’ve went the same route only walking pneumonia at 19 sent me to the doctors. The morning nose bleeds were explained. Very high blood pressure. That got under control and yearly doctor visits followed with nagging from the wife. Both my father and grandmother didn’t follow the doctor advice. Both lived to mid eighties. The last couple of years for both before passing wasn’t pleasant. Limited mobility and blindness. I’m taking a different path.

I’ve lost 8LBs so far without too much effort. Of course it will slow after 10LBs as history shows. For the first 11 years of my retirement we visited my father in law in Fayetteville or Myrtle Beach. With his passing in March we’re entering a new faze for gateways. My brother in law is finally retiring in December from his job in Slidell Louisiana. We would see him and his wife a lot during Aggie football season he would stay with us. They found a house in McAllister OK. We’re going up there this week to get WiFi a pool service started etc. He only can comes up weekends with a U-Haul. Our 50th anniversary is Saturday so it will double as a getaway and helping them. They’ll be our new trip destination going forward. It will be fun watching and helping with his restoring first his 69 Firebird. As a plus there’s a casino in town and at the red river on the way. And a plus, plus only 6 hours drive instead of 3 days. And no more interstate 10. What a blessing.

Silverado EV's are appearing.  My post covid Sunday car shopping is getting much more interesting!  Now, the cost just has to get in line!  My local GM dealer doesn't have a Silverado EV yet but there are some in larger centers nearby.   Plenty of Lightening availability at our local Ford dealer and prices are almost in reach.  The range of the Silverado makes it the one I want.  However, my CFO only lets me shop on Sundays when dealerships are closed so my wants don't really mean too much!

We had 16 guests for supper four nights in a row a few weeks ago.  All had travelled long distances to be here.  We knew our exposure to covid/flu/cold was high so we kept our plans minimal following this visit.  My wife and I are careful but not crazy. The outcome was we didn't get sick and had two weeks of an appointment free calendar!   It was great!  Of course it's different when you talk about a retired persons calendar.  Having one Dr.'s appointment in a day means my calendar is full.  When I was working, a 30 min break in my day planner meant I was free!

I got to McAlester Sunday afternoon. The pool at my brother in law’s new retirement house is the worse I’ve seen. It’s been 55 years since I took care of pools and that experience is why never got one. So relearning and swearing while learning the results are in site. The house is beautiful more than I want in retirement. They’ll learn like we did. We’re 5 years maybe 10 years from moving to the smaller house on the back of our property that we rent out now. And selling or renting the house we’re in now. My daily walking steps have increased 10 fold. And I can feel I’m still losing weight. So it’s all good.

So I finally got the water right. A pool cleaning service is coming tomorrow to vacuum the pool through some external filters back to the pool. I’m all kinds of looking forward to see that in action. I’m up to about 300$ just in chemicals. Had the water tested again and added baking soda for pools
