Software Updates?? Are there any?

I have a 2016 Silverado, 2500 HD, Diesel.  Occasionally, when reading through forum topics, I see mentions of software updates to these trucks.   But I've never received an update.  It's true, I've not been to a dealership in three years, but how am I supposed to know if there is an update available?  Do they update the trucks automatically via the Onstar technology?  There are definitely things like firmer braking and such, that I would love to see improved.  Also, my Bluetooth connection to my Iphone, has begun cycling on and off many  many times when I start my truck.  It never used to do that.

 

Any body have any feedback on this??

Have a dealer run your VIN.

 

GM computer system will know what updates have been added / need to be added to your VIN.

Over the air updates just started for 2019.  Dealers don't just do updates on a whim, you typically have to have a complaint to address.  They would then check for any TSBs, engineering info, etc. on GM SI, and if there is a software update, they would perform it.  Once out of 3/36 warranty, unless is powertrain related, any reprogramming would be out of your pocket.  

 

You can't fix "firmer braking" on HD trucks.  That is a mechanicals deal.  Either worn pads, brake fluid is low/leaking/needs replacing, power steering issue or hydroboost issue.  No reprogram is going to fix that.    

 

As for the bluetooth, delete the phone from the car and the car from the phone and re-pair them.  That fixes 95% of bluetooth issues with these trucks.

Thanks,  I hate to just drive into the dealership and ask if there is an update.  Seems like a perfect opportunity for them to start telling me there is something wrong with my truck and try and get some money out of me.

 

I have tried deleting the phone from the truck and the truck from the phone.  It didn't solve this particular problem.  And it did not always do this.  It baffles me when solid state electronics, behave as though they have parts that wear out.  This is a problem that seems to be getting worse, (happens more often), and the radio performs so well much of the time.

 

I read about a braking recall on these trucks, but my VIN did not fall into the recall.  It's a heavy truck, and the brakes have always been a bit more squishy than I'd like.  If I back off the pedal, and apply a second time, they firm up substantially, but of course, I don't always have the time to do that.  I guess I can have the fluid checked and check the pads, but it really has been an issue since new.

Sounds like you need to have them look at the brakes. 

2011 and newer HD's usually have excellent brakes.

The only brake recall that affected some HD trucks was the brake pedal pivot bolt nut coming loose. 

 

Your description of your brakes sounds like any GM hydroboost system from day one.  My 2015 was like that too.
