Who would have known?

Usually I drive my truck down the freeway doing 70 - 75 trying to keep up with the traffic so I don't get run over. My commute is about 24 miles.

Doing that, I am lucky to get 16 mpg.

Yesterday, I decided to get in the right lane and follow a slow truck doing 55 - 60 mph. I also did that driving home.

I averaged 20 mpg.

Of course everyone knows you get better mileage when you drive slower, but you can't do that on California freeways without getting a lot of people pissed off at you.

IMO...as long as your not in the left lane, who cares what anyone thinks ! Your driving your ride the way you want to drive, simple as that!!!

Are they not normally a parking lot?

Freeway speed limit in Illinois is generally 70 mph. I do 55 and keep right. Stay out of the big city (Chicago) were the limit is lower but traffic is doing 80 +. Seems the lower the posting the faster they drive. :wtf:

On the state highway's I've noticed something sort of weird. The posted limit is 55. If you drive 55 EVERYONE will pass you but they will wait until a blind hill or curve to do so. Double points are given in no passing zones and you get a Teddy Bear for a school, church or hospital zone. If you drive 60 or more it's insane.

Now slow down to 50 and you get honked silly, unless your driving a Buick then they nod and pass respectfully.

Slow down to 45, Pepper gets mid 30's at that speed, and traffic that would have passed you at 60 mph will sit back there until h*ll freezes over quite as a mouse. Must figure your a postal worker that just got fired. :)

Don't know what your state laws are out there but here Interstate has a 45 mph minimum and a 70 maximum. Right lane anything in between is game although even I am unsettled anything under 55. Rural there is no minimum. This is farm country and even locals will at times be down to 35 on narrow county blacktops...unless there driving a spray rig with cane wheels then 80

Point is, darned if you do, darned if you don't...SO...do what's legal and comfortable. They are always miffed about something.

I'm going to get a widow sticker made that says.

You drive yours, Ill drive mine.

What gears are in that truck again?

Actually it has the 4 speed with overdrive and the rear end is the 3.73.

I also have the Range installed where it stays in V8 mode all the time, and I had the A/C on.

I know if I did not have the towing rear end in it, I would be getting better gas mileage all the time.

That's not bad for a 4-speed truck.  The 5.3s after ours have VVT and that is good for a solid 1 mile per gallon.
