I have a 2009 Silverado  and #5 connecting rod snapped. Crank journals excellent ,and turns smoothly in mains. Can the crank be reused or is there a possibility it bent , and scrap it.

Not sure if I'm viewing the picture correctly. If this is a V-6 are you sure it wasn't #3 connecting rod? It appears the connecting rod took out a good chunk of the block with it. The whole thing looks like toast to me.

Well, you definitely need a block.  I'd find a trusted and reputable machine shop and have them check out the crank.  It could be tweaked, but looking at it might not tell you everything about it.

Looks to be a 4.8/5.3/6.0/6.2 so V8.  Reluctor wheel for the crank signal is at the rear of the crank.  Also, 6 bolt main caps.  The 4.3 the crank sensor is in the front cover and reads off the front.

It is a 5.3L and i have a good 4.8. #'s match on both blocks. I Was thinking of just swapping crank , rods and pistons, to the 4.8 motor. Pick up  2 more connecting rods as #5 blew and bent #6 connecting rod. It would just be regular use, no racing or heavy hauling. But yes the block is busted as well as head. And cylinder #5 valves and piston was in oil pan. Was not sure if anyone had this happen to them before and crank was OK

Thanks for reply It is rare , but it happened before The truck had 5w30 Valvoline 136,000 miles. I noticed you said you seen it before were the cranks still good? Reason is my local machine shop is about $150 to check it out for cracks and turn it. Or I can do $175 Ebay. It turns smoothly I have not removed mains. and connecting rod journals look good, no scars..
