I have a digital tire gauge and I put 36psi cold. My dash will read 35psi. I can drive 40miles on 100 degree day and psi will remain at 37psi rear and 38psi front. I don't think think my tpms are reading accurately. Could they be faulty?

Where do you live? Elevation will affect the reading since the sensors measure absolute pressure (higher the elevation the lower the reading). The system does not correct for atmospheric pressure.

Well the system was never meant replace a tire pressure gauge. It was meant to tell you you have an issue with low pressure in a tire before it goes flat. High end cars like BMW don't give you a number, only tell you system is ok. It is a gov mandated system after all.

How accurate is your gauge? Does it have a good scale where you can see small differences like a half pound of air?

I found on my 2014 that the TPMS reading is 100% accurate but when it gets a little off is if there is around a half pound difference between a full reading. Like for example, if the tire is actually read as 44.5 or less, I have seen the reading show as 43 but then quickly jump back to 44 when I start to move. I also had it show as 45 when it is really 44.5. It's close enough for me to keep an eye on while driving and hauling things but it's no big deal for me to watch them on my own.

What does your pressure gauge say at the end of the 40 miles?

It will read around 40psi and the dash will read 37psi. Not going to worry about it too much
