Over their failure to deal with their 8 speed transmission issues. After not getting service at the dealer, I wrote a letter to GM Customer Care. My case was assigned to a senior advisor who never answered his phone and would not call back until I called into the main number. Ultimately his supervisor called and told me GM would be doing nothing about my claim.

It was a complete joke and waste of my time. I will be completing any maintenance and repairs that are remotely possible without a trip to a GM dealership and buying my next vehicle from another manufacturer.

I have 2 questions, as I have that 8 speed: what mileage did it start, and did you get the newest fluid put in (and when)

It first happened on mine(barely, but got my dealer to do the flush) at 2300 miles, I got the new fluid under warranty, and it's been 18 months and still good.

But yeah, 2 Mazdas, a Honda, a Toyota, and my Chevy had more issues in 2500 miles than the rest combined, in a total of 250,000 miles(literally)

I don’t get it, what’s going on with your 8 speed transmission that’s caused you to have put of pocket repairs?

All of the typical 8 speed issues discussed on the board applied. I've basically had the issues since new. I inquired about bulletin 18-NA-355 while under warranty. Dealer said that fluid change is a maintenance item and charged diagnostic fee for looking at trans under warranty. Transmission locked up so hard on an on-ramp it squealed the tires, so I took it to a different dealer and paid for the fluid exchange. It fixed my issues. After driving a couple hundred miles after the fluid exchange, I got a CEL for the trans temp sensor. I fixed that myself. There's a bulletin for special warranty coverage for the trans temp sensor on the 8 speed 6.2, but not the 8 speed 5.3.

So you had a bad dealer experience, went to another dealer and the handled it and fixed your problem. You had another issue which you fixed your self which I am assuming is because your 2016 is out of warranty, so what is the problem? Sounds pretty minor and were fixed (transmissions issues with the fluid which is well documented to fix it and make it work much better and then you replaced a failed sensor which happen), doubt you will have any better luck with any of the other manufacturers  as they all have their problems and some worse than others but good luck I guess? Thanks for letting us know you are leaving!

You do realize that all the manufacturers have problems. I am always repairing the wife's 2017 Ford which she got when the new Ram she was test driving broke down when the engine just grenaded. I have had a few issues with my Chevy but I fix it just like I would have to do with any other brand of truck. They are all made as cheap as possible to make the most profit.

The second dealer 'handled it' because I paid for the exchange to the new fluid. If I didn't have this community to have pointed me toward the fix, I wouldn't have even known about it. I would have trusted the dealer that said it was normal.

Thanks for your well wishes. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and it looks like most disagree with my perspective here.

I didn’t leave GM. I just bought a clean older model with a proven record. They’ll get right eventually. Hopefully. There’s people out there with no problems.
