Hey all, Just picked up a '21 Sierra Elevation with the 3.0, that was pretty basic on options, has x31 and parking assist.

Is there anyway to add on some of the "factory" options aftermarket, suck as bed outlet, dash outlet, factory trailer brake, etc.  or am I just SOL,

Thanks for any insight.

I do not have the 110 in the dash either, my '15 Silverado did and we used it often. I assume that would be some type of wiring harness etc.

Big no on the trailer brake.

110v/230v is a problem too.  The truck's body harness is different with or without the outlets option.  $700-800 just for the body harness, $200-300 for the inverter and $450 for the instrument panel wiring harness.  All with no guarantee that it will function or if you have to swap fuse blocks as well.

I have heard (and read) several times that you can have factory add-on options after the sale indicated on the VIN/build sheet.  I've asked several dealers about adding my GM intake and exhaust to the RPO list for my VIN but they all look at me like I have three heads.  Has anyone been successful at getting this done?

GM intake and exhaust are accessories.  You can't add them to the build sheet.

Ah, makes perfect sense.  Thanks.  Seems I was given bad intel.

Yes and no.  See below.

After the sale they do get reported to GM's system when installed by the dealer and are documented as installed, but they don't get added to the build sheet.  So if the dealer installed flaps, tonneau, boards, etc. I can run the VIN if it was in for repair and see what was done to it.

On the other hand when ordering a car/truck, LPO accessories.  "Limited Production Options".  If you see anything on the window sticker from GM that says "dealer installed" like mud flaps, running boards, tonneaus, etc. they were ordered by the dealer when they submitted the order for the truck.  They are installed at the dealership when the truck arrives and they all have an associated RPO code that gets placed on the build.

So for example on the intake and exhaust, if you order the power pack on a Colorado, they come to the dealer as an LPO, the VIN will have 4 RPO codes to identify.  One for the power pack as a whole (RPO code PDG), and then the exhaust (RPO code WBC) and the intake (5W7) and YM8 identifying LPOs present on the vehicle.  The intake can be ordered on its own as an LPO as well so it would have "5W7" and "YM8" on the build.

Here is an example of the window sticker with LPOs on it from a Camaro:

So if you follow the columns, "Black Fuel Door w/Exposed Carbon Fiber" has underneath it (top of the next column) "Dealer Installed".  If I pull the build for this Camaro, it will show RPO code YM8 LPO identifier and then have RPO code VQL for the fuel door.  If I had a Camaro and went to the dealer and ordered this same fuel door and installed it myself while in bumper to bumper, it does not get documented on the VIN history with GM, and I only get the 12 month part warranty.  If I bought a Camaro and had the door installed by the dealer a 5 miles, I get it documented installed and then the part is warrantied for the 3/36 bumper to bumper period instead of 12 months.

I stand corrected.  I'm not usually wrong but often am :)

I’d say you’re sol on the factory power and the trailer brakes. Hopkins makes a nice controller with a separate control and monitor so you can mount the slider in the same place as the factor one would be at least.

Used that one in my 2016 and liked it.

You can buy an inverter for the power, maybe mount it in the center console.

I just ordered the parts for this Rear View Camera mod.  It's an upgrade that wasn't available on my '21 Silverado LT but apparently is relatively easy to install.  Here is the post

I thought the trailer brake came standard with the 3.0?

3.0 doesn't include or require the trailer brake, but the 3.0 could in a truck that has it included (or required) for another reason.

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
