Hey everyone, have a 2020 GMC 2500HD that I bought last November and noticed that the interior tailgate trim (The plastic piece that covers the inside lower half of the tailgate) was slightly bowed in the middle and when depressed to seat against the tailgate, like when you stepped on it to get into the bed, it would pop loudly when stepping off of it, popping back into place (bowed).  I thought maybe the 10 or so screws were not allowing it to seat correctly, so I removed them to see that this wasn't the case.  Simply, the plastic lip around the trim was not fitting around the edge of the sheet metal, hence the popping on and off.  I just took the truck in for its first oil change at Laura GMC in Collinsville, IL and decided to have it addressed while it was in for service.  The tech just called to tell me that "All of them are doing this and it is what it is"...I find that very hard to believe.  Is there anyone else that has seen this from their tailgate?  I know not all fit and finish will be perfect, but this is a rather loud annoying noise that I think should be fixed...Curious to see everyone's thoughts.  Thanks in advance.

Well I just dropped a 16” piece of wood on mine and it cracked. Not covered by warranty. So I’m just deleting the whole plastic shitteree and replacing with rockguarded aluminum. The Swiss cheese under that plastic is a joke. If I had my way I would have opted for the normal solid tailgate.

Any trim is available without the multi-pro.

You could have got it without the multi-pro.

Truck was already built. Dealer wanted money to swap it out.

Why wouldn't they want to cover their cost?

Besides, by saying that meant they sold sell it without investing extra time.

I said if I had it my way, as in if I had factory ordered the truck in which case the standard tailgate would have been no extra charge, then I would have. As that was not the case, and it would have cost me a significant amount of money to change it out at the dealer level,  I didn’t nor did I expect the dealer to do it for free. So not sure what you’re driving at.

The clip piece in the picture I just added is probably what’s jacking you around. And no they aren’t all doing it.

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
