GMSierraJB Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 I am in the process of swapping out my speakers in my 2020 Sierra with the 7” IOR stereo. Did Kenwood 6x9 and 2.75” in the front and Rockford 6.5 in the rear. Sound is ok but I want to add an amp to bring it to life. I called the install bay to get an amp recommendation and he said because of the crossovers in these new models I need a module to get proper signal for the hi level input or it won’t help. It’s like $800! Anyone have any advice? I’d like to just do a hi level input and amplify these bad boys! Cheers!
Transient Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 Have you looked into this? Kicker might be worth contacting. https://accessories.chevrolet.com/product/electronics/200-watt-subwoofer-and-200-watt-amp-kit-by-kicker-associated-accessories-19417165?year=2020&make=Chevrolet&model=Silverado%201500&modelId=491&body=Crew%20Cab%20Pickup&bodyId=22&wheel=Short%20Box&wheelId=651&trim=Custom%20Trail%20Boss&trimId=5100&drive=4WD&driveId=8&engine=5.3L%20V8%20GAS&engineId=2059&bodyNumDoors=5&categoryId=12013Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
GMSierraJB Posted March 14, 2021 Author Posted March 14, 2021 I did ya - I’m in Canada it’s almost $2,000 so hoping there’s a more economical workaround!
meirikm Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 You could go with some JL C2’s and an amp for half of the $2k
Rukus Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 You need a DSP. The OEM radio has setting (can explain if you really want) that basically adjust audio levels for stock speakers. Lower bass at higher volumes etc... You need to "level set" the audio. The DSP will also make the audio come alive! You need a DSP. GMSierraJB Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 That’s awesome thanks so much! Is there one that’s recommended for this set up? Trying to be good but not break the bank!
meirikm Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Audio control makes amazing dsp’s that would probably run you $100-$150 that would correct and help you tune your amp(s)/speakers. You can also by amps with built in dsp’s. I bought a kicker 4 channel amp with a built in dsp for about $200. This is obviously more of an entry level amp but it helps my JL C2’s keep up with my 4 sundown SA 12’s
meirikm Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Without the dsp’s in most newer vehicles the stereo system can kind of cancel itself out. A lot of the newer vehicles stereo will emit frequencies through the speakers to help minimize road/engine noise. If it picks up too much bass, it will start to try to cancel it out and will f up your sound.

Descartian Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 There should be a simple harness that plugs into the factory harness that you can tap into the audio line level outs. I recently has a system installed in my IOR equipped WT trim truck. 2 amps, mid/highs and subs.
