Hearing that Global B is likely to be the death of adding any type of options after the fact through third parties. Everyone better get what they want the first time.

I'm sure that's true. This is definitely the direction the manufacturers have been moving with nearly everything. They want to own the market ALONE. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Also, going to be sad to say goodbye to the age-old GM "chime". How many years, now, has that been in use? It has a very comforting feel whenever you get in the truck and hear it.

The new chime, at least, isn't that bad. It could be annoying like my wife's Honda or... even worse... as childish and lame sounding as the Ford chime. That thing is like nails on the chalkboard for me.

With the 2019-2021 Silverado/Sierra still on Global A, they still did something different to previous years to lock it down.  Is that correct?

The new E90 ECM was a big step toward locking down the powertrain. It’s since been cracked, of course.

Interior features still seem relatively easy to fiddle with currently. Upgrading cluster, adding wireless CarPlay, cameras, etc all doable on the current trucks. But it sounds like those types of things will no longer be possible on Global B.

This is old info, and has been known for a few years. Iirc, COVID prevented this transition from happening to Silverados in 2021 model year. There are supposedly a bunch of improvements with the new system, too. One of those is improved adaptive cruise control. Awhile back GM discussed how the current system has a lag in it. If you are behind a slow car and your vehicle shows down to maintain distance, then you change lane to get around that slow car there's a lag in accelerating back up to the preset speed. The new electrical architecture is suppose to have a fix for that.

As for me, my 2020 Silverado may be the last GM truck I ever buy. The button gear selector on the dash for the 2022+ trucks bothers me that much. I would've settled for a center console shifter like the F150 has. I want to drive my truck, not have it drive me. It's a shame GM allows such a minor issue cost it a bunch of money.

I find it funny GM-not so-Authority keeps referencing it as "Global B".

GM doesn't even call it that.  Its the VIP platform.  Vehicle Intelligence Platform.  Expect anything aftermarket to be a PITA on it too.  Many devices upset the current Global A platform, its only getting worse.  They've even changed the way dealers do reprogramming on it.  Global A would be key on engine off and then follow any ignition cycle prompts.  VIP now is done with all doors closed, key off engine off unless instructed to by the programming event in GM SPS2 (GM Service Programming System).

Here's some articles on it:
