Chevrolet and GMC Dealers:

As promised, we want to continue to keep you in the loop regarding the global, industry-wide shortage of semiconductors.  Due to these shortages, we are announcing the following change to certain vehicles:

HD Radio will no longer be available on certain 2021 model year:

  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500
  • GMC Sierra 1500

And all 2022 model year:

  • Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 HD
  • GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD

This change takes effect starting with vehicles schedule for production on or after July 12, 2021.

For orders with a scheduled production date on or after July 12, 2021, GM will build certain 2021 light-duty and all 2022 heavy-duty pickups with the added RPO code RG0 - Not Equipped with HD Radio (refer to the updated Order Guide and table below for trim details). This RPO code will be reflected on the Dealer Invoice along with an associated $50 MSRP credit only for affected 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500.  The Monroney label will include this credit and indicate that the vehicle was built without HD Radio. Chevrolet and GMC are updating all consumer and dealer facing materials as appropriate.

All orders of these affected vehicles entered in Order Workbench after June 23, 2021 will be built without U2L - HD Radio.  The affected vehicle order guides will be updated to reflect these changes and will be published on June 28, 2021. Each dealer has the responsibility to and must advise affected sold order customers immediately. In addition, dealers are strongly urged to counsel directly with all customers who purchase affected vehicles to ensure each customer understands its vehicle content.  This change to the availability of HD Radio is currently expected to be permanent.  A listing of affected trims is listed below and is subject to change by General Motors:

2021 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500
LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country
2021 GMC SIERRA 1500

MS3, thanks for the update.  I have a '22 HD on order and I'll be happy to take it without HD.  I have a '15 HD currently and I think I have HD but to be honest I'm not entirely sure!  HD is the feature that tells you the artist and name of the song if you are listening to FM radio correct?

As far as the change over to the '22s, it sounds like it's is still going to happen on July 12 at the Flint plant.  If you hear anything new at all about the 22s I would definitely be interested either via a new thread or a PM.  Excited to get the new truck and hope it's in August or September!

i think HD radio just allows the receiver to decompress and play the HD radio signals sent out by radio stations. some stations send out both analog and digital. an HD radio is needed to listen to the HD signals. the signals are a better sound quality

You don't realize how good HD radio is until you no longer have it.  Now if you stream or use XM primarily you probably won't miss it at all.

I was lucky enough to get the HD radio in my 2021 Sierra 3500.  I will say the sound quality is significantly better than Sirius/XM, but that's just my $.02 cents.

I have a 2021 SLE/Base; can’t seem to find an HD radio option in the head unit (stock radio). Does anyone know if this trim level just doesn’t come with HD radio?

HD radio wasn't available on the base trim, and was an option on the SLE trim level, SLT/AT4/Denali it was standard.

Thanks MS3DALE, wasn’t sure if I was

missing something within the options on the head. Since I didn’t order but rather purchased from inventory, options were limited. Not too concerned about it, used a HD radio on previous car to listen to one AM station on FM HD.
