Hello,

I m waiting for our 2022 Silverado High Country.  As I m in Canada, the truck will come standard with 20 inch wheels and for winter I m thinking about getting 17 inch wheels.  Size for the winter tires would normally be 275/60R20 vs 265/70R17 I m thinking about getting.  Bolt pattern would be the same.  Now I m wondering and would like to have your advice please: normally 17 inch wheels are proposed for lower end 1500s but not mid and higher range ones, may I run into trouble in any way?  Perhaps calbers and discs on High Country and LT models are not of the same size?  Or will I be just fine if I install 17 inch wheels?

Many thanks

Welcome to the site. Congratulations on your new truck!

If they are T1 wheels (17"), you will have no problem at all. If you have ordered the upgraded brake package, might have an issue.

The wheels from the K2's, 14 - 19 (LD), will not fit T1's.

I sold my 20's few years ago got z71 18" great upgrade, shocks are happier too, just rently swapped in a new set of 17" alloys off a T1 truck onto my K2 much better ride than the 18" IMO

I believe the spare tire that comes with your truck sits on a 17 inch steel rim so you should be good to go with

17 inch wheels for the winter

I downsized from 20's to 18's.  I kept overall tire diameter roughly the same, which basically gave me more sidewall, and I am very pleased with the change.  If you are dead set on 17" wheels, then as long as you stick with 17" wheels from a T1 series Silverado, you will be fine.

Welcome to this site!  I like 17's because the aspect of the tires prevents most potential curb damage to the rims.  Other than that I'd keep the 20" wheels and upgrade tire height if they fit. Whether your wheels are 17",18",20" or 22", your choice of tires will determine your winter traction.  Definitely give your new wheels a winter before downsizing, imo.

The T1 20” and even 22” combos are tall enough and have enough of a bulge to protect from curb damage unless you ram into one at full tilt.

We don’t often have Canada levels of snow but I’ve run 20s and 22s for the last 6 winters here in WI and never really had any problems. At best I would consider getting some 18” take offs from a Trail Boss or something. The 17” wheels look ridiculous on a T1.

My 14 Texas Edition GMC came with 20s. I didn’t know at the time and didn’t notice any difference. If I knew I’d probably test drove over some bad roads. My trailblazer ss had 20s you could tell by looking and the ride. The ride was very nice on the 14. If it had a normal 5.3………..
