So my 06 Silverado will be needing a new engine soon as it has 259,000 miles and has an internal coolant leak and lifter that drops intermittently. GM doesn’t know when they will have an engine in stock so I was wondering what would be the next best choice? NAPA says they may be 6 weeks or even 3 months before having one in. Places like Auto Zone can order one from NuTech but never dealt with them. Want engine that will last so price not super critical. I’ve seen other reman places online but don’t have any idea of quality.

Any input appreciated.
Thanks

Just my thoughts here, but if you have the means, maybe look for a low miles used engine.  A lot of the times you can get these at least here with 100k or less miles, and they will sell you the complete engine.  Doing the seals, gaskets, plugs, etc is super easy once the engine is out, and would be like a new engine.

I was going to suggest used. The problem is cylinder deactivation. If they weren’t maintained well there could be problems with oil consumption.

I looked up cylinder deactivation on the web (all knowing) says GM had it then. If not salvaged yards would work.👍

The project I’m doing would possibly clear up your issuers with the lifter and coolant.  Check out the thread:

I will be in this for around $1300 by the time I’m done.  You have about seventy thousand more miles than I do though…
