So I suspect it has something to do with the fluid. Someone mentioned he changed the transmission oil to another manufacturer, and that solved the problem. I used Ravenol Oil (German Manufacturer) with Dexron VI specification. But maybe I should try AcDelco/GM Genuine?

 

movario did you replace only your valve body and not the TCU? I have the same sort of problem and wonder if it's the TCU/solenoid(s). I have a reman Dorman unit arriving soon but just want to try to understand everyone else's experiences before doing a bunch of work for nothing.

I only replaced the valve body. I kinda hoped that worn checkballs were the reason. But that wasn't the case. I also thought about a new TCU, but those are expensive and would require programming (as you can't get them preprogrammend). And given that Chevys aren't sold where I live, I wanted to avoid that.

Of course, always want to minimize part guessing!

 

Well I luckily had a friend who had a programmer, so I can actually even flash the TCU myself. Probably change that later this week and I'll let you know if the noise goes away. I'm also going to log before and after in HPTuners to see if there is any difference with the shift behaviors or shift speed.

So, i was going to replace the torque converter but, it appears that is not the fix.  I have a 2014 Silverado and the sound coming from the transmission is exactly like heard in the video.  I did notice that replacing the fluid with Max- Life trans fluid helped a lot. Maybe a higher viscosity. Prior to that I used Castol Versatrans and the noise was much more apparent. This truck has been such a disapointment. Here's the short list:

Door Actuators (random locking unlocking problem) (replaced driver and passenger door actuators)

Water Pump (noise) (replaced)

Valve cover leaks (replaced gaskets)

Alternator (replaced)

A/c Compressor (replaced)

A/c Condenser (replaced)

Coolant Lines (heater) (replaced)

Oil Cooler Lines (replaced)

Rear End Noise (Rebuilt differential )

Hub bearings (replaced noisy)

Brake pad and rotor issues  (numerous front and rear)

Excessive carbon on valves (walnut shell blasting)

Trailer Controller  issue (Replaced switch)

Oil pan leaks (Resealed pan)

Rear Window inop (replaced rear window motor assembly)

Cooling fans randomly run at high speed (had to disconnect battery)

Thermostat stuck shut. (replaced)

Has anyone found this issue out yet? I have a 2018 GMC Sierra and I have the exact same noise at idle. It drives completely fine either on normal roads or going into highway speeds. No slips, not shutter or any sort but at idle does whine.

I have a 2015 suburbam with a 6L80 transmission and have been having issues with it for about 18 months, to sumarize at one point car just stoped and would not shift into any gear and i belived it was basicaly a transmission  replacement job. However i managed to get the car going again and drove it home, barely made it. Once at home dropped the pan and replaced the fluid and filter. No probelms for about 1000 miles and it started to whine while shifting into 3rd to 4th gear and severely overheating also. This time i took it to a garage and i belive they replaced the transmission Pump and the car was running ok but the transmission was working like the overdrive was on sometimes always 1 gear up. This went on for about 9 months and now the winning is back and the transmission is misbehaving badly. I am going to replace fluid and like all the other times it will go away for a while and come back winning. I would say that the winning is related to oil degradation as is no longer overheating. The question is what is degrading the transmission fluid? Any comments would be helpful.

Hello I’m having a similar problem with my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4x4, 6.0L

whining when idling in Drive, reverse, and manual mode. It’s only been doing this for about a week and yesterday it started shifting like a midget driving a dump truck… anyway, the fluid level is kinda high In my opinion and the fluid consistency is normal/average. I know a little bit about the world of mechanics so changing the torque converter seems irrelevant. I’ve tried to do some research to find out if this is a CVT type transmission, but I can’t find anything on it. I’m only saying that because I know CVT type transmission has an internal belt and the whining sound, sounds an awful lot like a belt, either slipping or freezing up on a pulley. But I never owned a vehicle with a CVT type transmission and I’ve definitely never heard the whining sound coming from any transmission ever. My wife wanted me to sell my Ford 7.3 L diesel and get this truck because the Ford was too loud. So please somebody help before I start rubbing it in that I should’ve kept the ford.. Only bring myself misery Because she will put me in the doghouse, but I won’t be able to help myself lol

    • Progress... sort of.   Intake is disassembled, spider is out, fuel lines removed. Used a torch on the stripped screw with the lower intake off, much easier when I've got the intake sitting on my workbench, I made it talk. Walked right out with a pair of vice grips once it was nice and toasty hot.   New parts are piling up on my service cart waiting to be installed. Distributor, temperature sensor, new gaskets, fuel line kit, themostat, water neck.   My new pickle is I don't want to spend $600 on a replacement spider. I'm not sure IT is bad. I'm probably splitting hairs. Or it's $300 to send mine away and another 3 weeks of the truck just sitting. I have half a mind to assemble everything with the old spider to see if I can get away with just replacing the fuel pressure regulator to be safe. The obvious issue was the gushing high pressure fuel line which will be replaced. Getting to the spider really isn't that hard, and now I know what I'm doing , swapping it would be a breeze should it absolutely need one. Stupid, or smart?   The part that gives me pause is replacing the distributor. Well, it's already out. And I didn't mark it, whoopsie! Engine was at TDC when I removed it, I know that, so upon correct reinstall the metal tip on the rotor should point to the TDC mark on the distributor because that's where it was pointing on the old distributor. Worst case I'm a tooth off and have to re-stab it.   But then, what? I assume the truck will start. It doesn't appear the timing can be set. Here's the problem: These distributors can't be rotated but a degree or two, by design. What I read is Cam ****** needs to be -2 to +2 degrees, ideally at 0 (and checked/set above 1000 rpm). There should be enough wiggle to get that properly set, but checking the reported value is another potential issue. My Actron 9185 scanner says it supports enhanced GM PIDs and Cam ****** is one of them but it's unclear that I'll be able to correctly see it over OBD 1.5. I can see why people end up junking these things with life left in them. They're an absolute nightmare with tweener-year diagnostics/electronics and unobtanium parts.   Fingers crossed it starts and idles nicely. There can be hope, right? I'ma buy a lottery ticket the same day just in case.   Next steps..DO IT. I have not installed an intake before so I've been reading and watching a lot. Some say NO RTV except on china walls, some say DO RTV on water ports but not fuel/air intake. 1/4 or 3/8 bead on China walls? I think my strategy will be, obviously, RTV china walls with overlap on the gasket corners. Chapstick-style RTV the water ports. Leave intake ports dry. The only set of intake gaskets I could find locally are Edelbrock performance gaskets (uh...for an asthmatic 190hp V6? LOL) so we'll see how they do.   #NoToolLeftBehind. It took an hour, but my recovery mission for my deep 10mm socket was successful. It had rolled down the bellhousing and wedged itself between what I think are the fuel lines? I couldn't see it at all, but with a junk antenna I had laying around, I blindly went poking/sweeping for it, heard it clink, raised the truck, and caught a sliver glimpse of chrome with a flashlight way up there in Narnia. I had pushed it farther along the lines holding it captive, but within access of severely improvised tools, poking and cursing at it to finally knock it free to where I could get a fingertip on it to bring it home.    Not much to see.
