I may be a little confused. A little over a year ago we were oil independent and exporting. We also were opening up more oil fields in Alaska and offshore. And gas was cheap. So with the potential of much more drilling and more pipelines and more exports. How would it get more expensive here? It would be cheaper to sell it here and charge more to sell it overseas.

We were oil independent then natural gas got too cheap, resulting in drilling hiatus for some. The Americans have this glue, I think it's called Elmer's glue. When you keep it going, it won't clog up. But you don't use it for a week, the gunk becomes hard and you have to use scissors to cut off the top. Same thing with natural gas, the drilling can't really be stopped, it'll clog up and take forever to re-do the extraction.

We were exporting, correct, but that does not mean the oil industry was profitable. Natural gas from different areas in the world cost the same, some cost $1 a barrel to extract, some cost $15 a barrel to extract. Ours come from shale so it's a lot more expensive than the gas from Alberta which comes from under sand and is easy to extract. Russian gas is also cheap too, so is Venezuelan gas. In fact, Keystone XL pipeline benefits the Canadians far more than us.

Elections have consequences!

We were energy independent, then the "climate change zealots" came into power with determination to kill fossil fuels and the rising prices is exactly what they want.  That way their investments in solar and electric will make their supports more money.   Our Energy secretary appeared in the anti-gas video.

Funny thing is we aren't involved with Ukraine. We're not even having oil shortage right now but the traders decide the prices. They buy options then sit on it. The middle men do nothing but drive up the prices. Obama wanted to ban them but Republicans did not want that. Price manipulation sucks.

Speculation is the driver, that’s a fact. If there’s no shortage of oil. The current administration could simply say we’re going to reverse restrictions on drilling. The prices would drop.

We already said we're going to give up some of our reserves. Funny thing, Obama did the same trick and gave up some, but also refilled it to the brim. We don't want the traders catching onto that. It has nothing to do with Biden or Trump or Obama. I wish the Republicans would make it so that the traders MUST be buying oil, not just sitting on it!

The reserves released last about a day. I finally see how you (lean) politically and know you probably can’t see the forest from the trees so I’ll leave it here.

The best 50-mile I've ever done was 28. It was achieved by doing 62 mph. That was with 5.3 with 8-speed and 4x4.

Fuel economy is usually calculated by using the average of 6 tank fills, not cherry picking.

If gas gets to $5 like some

Predict.  Then I might have to sell a kidney to stay afloat. It really frustrates ME when I have worked my tail off to have very nice things. They are PAID FOR and still going to struggle to use them because of “higher powered” peoples arrogance/disrespect/and greediness.

$8-10    😉

I'm actually a moderate, I'm pro-gun and pro-oil, but I see so much bullshit, especially when people blame Biden for something he has no control over. It's like blaming Biden for the Flint water situation not improving.. it's Michigan's responsibility, not the EPA. It's like having the FBI patrol our highways for speeders. I do know oil very well, I know plenty of options traders and I get oil royalties, and believe me, it's them who decide the prices, not Biden.

You can evaluate this all you want. IT IS WHAT IT IS and nothing new.

Pepper gets great mileage. Choices made a difference like the V6. Choices of fluids made a difference. Tune made a difference. Alignment and tires made a difference.  Driving style made a difference. None of that has anything to to with poly-tics. And people laugh at me? 🤔

"I didn't buy a truck to get great mileage", bravado.

"It's a truck", Echo

"Driving within the speed limit is dangerous"

If ever there was a time for this emoji ...

:idiot:

Deleting the part where I said, "I currently average at 22.9 over 400 miles" is cherry picking. :)

If the OP is going to be driving exclusively on the highway, then he likely will get 28 mpg by traveling at a constant 62 mph.

Yes, I guess I am cherry picking.  I’m trying to see if I can maximize my mileage on an upcoming trip. It will be almost all highway miles and the entire trip will be about 2500 miles. A very rough calculation yields that if I do 2mpg better, I’ll save about $50.  Nothing to get excited about but this trip I have no time constraints (retired) and no reason to hurry.  So, why not.

You will get 28 mpg if you drove like me. Perhaps slightly better since you have 10-speed and probably not a 4x4. I stay on the right, I don't try to mash the gas pedal to pass trucks. I wait until there's a huge, huge gap on the left lane so I don't have to accelerate to pass the truck, I can maintain my own speed instead. It's the accelerating part that's a gas mileage killer. That is why hybrids use the battery to accelerate, but not maintain speed.

And with the way gas prices are increasing, you'll be saving $100 instead!

This is very interesting!!  Also look at what would have happened if we kept our production here in US instead of relying on Russia!  This is what I've said all along! We need to worry about the UNITED STATES!!
