Hi, I apologize in advance for this long post but I am honestly stressed out about this and don't really know what I should do.

I am in sales and my territory is in multiple states so I drive a lot of highway miles.  I have a 2019 Sierra SLT with a 6.2L and pretty much all the options you can get on the SLT model.  I currently have 116,000 miles on it.  I have not been happy with this truck from the start because it has left me stranded multiple times.

  • 1,200 miles the solenoid went out that allows it to come out of park and I couldn't shift out of park. - Covered under warranty
  • Trailer module was replaced due to lights not working. - Covered under warranty
  • I used the GMC app to start my truck once while I was out of town and my truck then had no brakes and went into limp mode.  - Covered under warranty.  Dealer said it was because of a bug in the software update.
  • Idler pulley needed replaced because it was whining really loud

In January this year when the truck had 112K miles on it my engine failed.  It was a broken lifter which bent the push rod and damaged the cam.  Not covered under warranty and the dealer said I had a choice of $6,000 to fix the existing engine or I could put a new engine in for $8,000.  I opted for the new engine.

This took about 5 weeks to get back.  $8K was to cover labor and everything.  When I went to pick it up the bill was $9,400 and I was told that my oil pressure sensor was damaged in the changeover so I was charged for that, as well as they said I now needed a new fuel pump even though that was fine when my engine failed.  That along with a $1,500 rental car bill because it's my only vehicle, I had near $11,000 out of pocket for this.  I have seen the posts about the GM lifter issues and that is what happened to me but GM refused to help in any way.

I got my truck back and opened the hood.  The factory wiring harnesses were just laying in the truck not clipped into the factory clips anywhere.  The bolts that hold my air filter box and coolant overflow reservoir are completely missing.  There is a bracket wire strapped to the wire harness that is just hanging there.  There is a liquid gurgling sound from the dash which makes me think they didn't purge the air out of the coolant properly or something like that.  That's all things that I could see at a quick glance, there are more I'm sure.  But the reason I took it to the dealer and not some random guy down the street is because I wanted it done right and that wasn't the case.

I have 4,000 miles on the new engine.  For the past few weeks when I start it it will stall sometimes.  Then it would stall as soon as I put it in reverse.  Then it was stall a few times until I get going but then be fine.  Yesterday I went to the store and when I left the truck was running rough.  It stalled multiple times leaving the parking lot and would surge kind of.  When I was leaving it stalled as I was pulling out onto a major road.....I was able to limp it home.

I don't know what to do.  I don't feel I should have these issues on a 2.5yr old $60,000 truck.  I don't want to take it to the dealer that did the engine swap because I don't trust them.  I can't afford to get another rental car for a month.  I can't afford to keep putting thousands of dollars into this truck.  This has been the worst experience of a vehicle I've ever had.  My last truck was a 2005 Nissan Titan.  I bought it new and sold it in good working order when I bought this truck.  I had that for 14yrs, 430,000 miles and NO MAJOR ISSUES.

I would take it back to the dealer and make them get it right. When they finally get it right, or near right, I'd trade that sucker in on a new rig.

Even though I am very happy with my current GMC truck, if I felt abused by GM like you've been, I would probably be looking at a different manufacturer.

Or you could take a less emotional stance and realize all manufacturers spit out a lemon every now and then.

Honestly, with the amount of miles you put on a vehicle, I'd take a look at a refreshed 3.0 Duramax.

Get dispassionate, bear down and fight em to get it right or find another GM maintenance source that will help you get it right.

I cannot believe there is not a class action lawsuit on GM for this lifter debacle.  All your other issues are a shame too.

I would write a detailed letter to your local GM rep and run it up the chain.  Since you are in sales they should/will listen to you because they are about to lose one of their best customers.

If this 2.7 becomes a problem I will be on them like fly on ++++.  I will also have LIFETIME detailed oil analysis from Black02Silverado  to back up any claims.

Good luck Josh.

Why did you not take it back the second you opened the hood and were not happy with the work performed? You could have bought a used car for what you paid.

Now, you will have to fight because of the miles and time you have put on it. What type of warranty did you get with the new engine? Make them honor it, and fix your truck correctly, or start the legal process against the dealership, not GM. That will get their attention.

Agree to take it back.  It should or better have a warranty and make them make it right. At the same time start the paper trail and letter to GM corp with your issues and what you found after they supposedly completed the work on your dime.

All one can do is push what one can on making things write and let GM corp know so that they can fix it as well.  If nothing gets done, they will continue to treat others the same way.

This lifter issue stinks and GM knows it but until it really hits them in the bank account, they will not do a thing.  Less money for them to do what little warranty work they are doing and just sell new trucks to those that don't care to get it fixed.  Sad really.

Honestly it's hard to explain the stress this whole thing has caused for me.  I mean yeah, it's just a truck, but it's an expensive one and it's my only vehicle which I need for my job and to haul my kids around (I'm a single dad).  I also don't have money laying around to pay for any of this.  My experience with my Titan was 400k miles of worry free driving so I guess my expectations were skewed a little bit.  So....I had been arguing with the dealer and GM customer service about the known lifter issues for 5 straight weeks at that point and kept hearing "I'm sorry sir, there is nothing we can do" which wears on you.  So the next morning after seeing the mess under the hood I got ready and started driving to the dealer to basically ****** them out over it.  I got half way there and just decided to turn around because 1) I don't have confidence they would fix anything right anyhow, 2) I just don't have the energy to fight it anymore.  They all just look at me like I'm being a unrealistic jerk due to the mileage.  Idk, it's hard to explain, but yeah I should've taken it back.

Yeah, I guess I need to take it back to them.  I would love to trade it in on something but I won't get anything close to what I owe on it.

Brother fighting is hard when a guy is down, especially something like this.  WRITE everything down to the dealer and GM regional rep. Get a paper trail and make them pay for your pain.

Being a single Pop is admirable so hang in there and let us know how it progresses.

It's kind of funny to me.  The truck brand new had a 3yr 36,000 warranty but my new engine gets a 100,000 warranty.  BUT...this issue I have now seems to be related to electrical or my fuel pump which isn't going to be covered.  Well the fuel pump might be because it only has 4,000 miles on it but I don't know yet.

Thank you!  How do I find out who the GM regional rep is?

Should have a reference in the manual for contacting GM over issues like this. Next step Chevrolet.com

You do not have to be nice, if they are treating you S##T. I have my own personal file in my customer file on how I should be treated. Most don't like me, but I walk away with the results I am looking for.

If you are not persistent, they will just toss you and your truck in the garbage and move onto the next "victim".

You won't, if they gave out that info, the persons phone would never stop ringing.

First thing, give GM customer service an earful, something you can do while driving, then go to the dealership and ask to speak with the owner, or General Manager. Explain your family situation and be firm with the fact that you will pursue legal actions if they do not fix the mess they have made. They may just be threats, but it will show you are serious. Once again, do not speak with anyone else, just upper management or ownership.

There used to be a contact In back of manual. Do engage in writing too or they’ll forget the tough guy routine. Both are ways I have gotten warranty out of warranty.
Note too that dealers aren’t GM even more so post bankruptcy.
