Hey so this is my first post.

Have a 2015 Sierra with the 5.3 L V8. Ran very smooth when I first got in 2016. It developed a shake at 73 MPH. Took it in to be looked at and the service manager told me it was a tire, I must have damages it on a curb (which was possible). Once I got new tires it continued, no one has been able to figure out why. Not sure anyone has ever checked the drive shaft or anything. Currently I've got 150K miles on it and unfortunately I'm kind of used to it but would love to get rid of it if I could. Crazy thing is that it seems to be worse at some points and I can't tell why.

I've had wheels rotated and balanced even with this new set several times. Could I have bent a rim? I would have thought balancing would show that.

Thanks for any input

Welcome to the site.

What is the RPM's at 73 MPH? if they are around 1500, my guess would be the torque converter saying it's last goodbyes.

150k man that could be 500 different things...front end whore out, u joints, rear spring bushings

Some people were having issues with out of round axles, so that could be another cause for the problem.

You'd have to obviously remove both axles and have a driveline shop do a runout on them to see if they are straight but that is a lot of labor/time to do that.

Sorry I wasn't clear. This began at about 35-40k miles. Still had the first set of tires on it. It was under warrenty and the service manager said it was the tires. Same issue with 2md set.  No one has found anything. Out of round axels sounds like a nightmare.

When you had the tires rotated and balanced, did they just do a traditional balance or did they do a road force balance? It does make a big difference.

Miketk101 that's a good thought. Only been traditional balance. Only have one shop around that does forced road balance. May give that a shot.

possibly a brake rotor out of balance? Did you do brakes around the time it started or done them since replacing the rotors?

I had an old Ford that was missing a blade on the alternator fan that shook at speed but you would feel that revving it up in neutral and they don't use that type of fan anymore. I would think you would feel the torque converter at lower speed but it is a possibility

I had my dealer do it one time when I still had the OEM tires. It was a bit pricy but solved a shake I was having. When it was time to replace the original tires, I bought them from Discount Tire. I just learned recently by accident that they do free lifetime rotations and road force balancing as part of the original purchase. I was actually encouraged by them that when it's time for my next oil change, after its done, come by and get the tires rotated and balanced again. I have had very good experiences with dealing with them in the past and will probably use them for next tire purchase. They have numerous shops nationwide. Might reach out to a local one and see what they would charge to do this for you.

I bought my 33s and my 35s from Discount Tire and had them shipped to my local Firestone repair shop.
They did the force balancing as a matter of course.
No issues with either install.

We use discount all the time, have one close to us. I'll have to ask about the road force balance. I thought it was just a standard balance.

Yes I've had new rotors put on since it started. Still there.
