I just had a lifter collapse, but the symptoms/knocking goes away if I drive in M5.  Is it safe to drive it in M5 until my mechanic can get it in the shop to do the AFM delete, lifter and camshaft?  2015 GMC Sierra 5.3.

AFM delete, lifter and camshaft

Driving with a broken part will make this decision a lot easier.

I plan to do AFM delete, lifter and camshaft.  I'm scheduled with my mechanic in 2 weeks.  I only have the lifter tick when the AFM goes into V4 mode.  V8 mode has no tick and no misfire.  Just wondering if it's safe to drive a few miles a couple times the next two weeks if I keep it in V8 mode with no lifter tick by locking the trans in M5 which disables the V4 mode.

A misfire will also go away in tow mode. Been there. The light load on the engine helps.

I would not drive it the way it is.

The problem is a bad lifter can damage the engine block if it comes apart, if you keep driving, then you looking at a new (or junk yard) motor!

My 2015 6.2 Silverado just did this. I parked it , but did drive it around the house trying to figure what was wrong. Tore it down ,#4 & #7 bent pushrods. I'm bummed out, changed oil and filter early every time. Never abused it. I was quoted 8k dollars to fix it. Needless to say , it is sitting in my garage torn down to the short block. I would not drive it , could turn into a really big job.
