That's awesome! I used to work with a retired Northwest Airlines Weld Inspector. The stories were pretty wild from those days of the repairs he had to do.

Oh yes, from welding fan blades to whatever.  Great memories....thank you for that!

Back in the late 80's early 90's it was common for someone to have a cooler full of beer in the back of their truck.  Of course we all would be done with our shift and this was like 7am in the morning and we were having a tailgate party in Delta's parking lot at 7am after working the midshift.  LOL.... those times were so much fun.  There would be 20 plus people out there enjoying a tailgate party in the Delta parking lot at 7am.....lol...I miss those times...we had so much fun!!!

Anyone running an exhaust that doesn't have  drone?

Any chance someone running the AFE has a pic of how the exhaust tip looks installed?

I'm still waiting for the same answer.  I've done a lot of exhaust upgrades on other vehicles and all some kind of drone.  All I want to do is rid my truck of that trashcan sized muffler and go 3.5" all the way.  No drone...just a nice mellow sound like the factory one has.

Here's an update.

For starters I changed tips. It helped a little. I contacted AFE and asked if anyone else has complained about this. And if they had any ideas on how to fix it. They suggested to try a resonator muffler. The person that I was talking to didn't have the pipe measurements. If I would take measurements to see how big of one could be used. I measured and and came up with that I could get one 17 inches overall total length. They made one and I'm going to test it to see if it works. And get back to them. It arrived this week, but I won't be able to try it until next week. I have 2 ideas on where to add it. It's basically cut to fit. There are 3 different pipes in front of the muffler. One way is to take out the middle pipe, there's still some cutting. And the other is to cut the first pipe, this is the flange pipe. Cut right behind the hanger and then go from there to the muffler. When I get it done, I'll let you know. And hope to have pictures too.

Ok, we have installed the little muffler. A lot of the drone is gone. There is a little in the 1500 to 1800 rpm range. It is quieter, but sounds good when you get on it. Even when pulling camper. The muffler is straight through just like the main one. It's close to stock with a little louder volume. The exhaust system kit came with a 4" inlet and a 5" outlet. I did change that to a 4" outlet chrome tip. So overall it's quiet at idle and a good sound at highway speed. I'm happy with the setup. I think it's has better throttle response and gas mileage is a little better too. This is a 4" exhaust system, flange all the way to the tailpipe. I have some pictures, but I'm on the tablet and they are on my phone. Post them later.

Here's the pictures that I have. Remember this is a crew cab and standard bed truck. These pictures were taken with the clamps off. Started working and remembered to take pictures. 20230604_164037.thumb.jpg.235288c73b02e5362844f101cc3eaacf.jpg20230604_164037.thumb.jpg.235288c73b02e5362844f101cc3eaacf.jpg

Currently welding up a Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator and Streetpower muffler. Will have a report back later today when she's mounted and running.

Best got dang exhaust I've ever made. Zero drone, still can hear the stock intake and just a slight deep grumble. I'm in love. I made a side exit tip as well that has a 4.5" od.

I believe if gm could save 99cents per truck with a smaller muffler they would!

I think they are battling the EPA about fuel economy and noise reduction. GM would be happy to sell a model with straight pipes.

I think I need to try this. I've read good things about that Vibrant UQ. Any reason you put it so close to the flange? Just wondering on placement. I put a 22" Magnaflow in and it drones at 1,500-1,800 RPM like I've seen in this thread.

Thanks.
