We'll, it's been a while. Figured I'd ask what's been really liked thus far.

Last I read, it was between S&B & Rotofab

I've already got a GM Borla Catback so, I would like to add a CIA

So far, I'm thinking S&B with the dry filter.. read somewhere that the oil/cleanable filter can mess the computer up. If that's not the case then that would be good.

Btw, what are the gains in HP and torque from.S&B?

Thanks fellas

I just installed this K&N 77-3103KC and I have only drove it just a few miles. Doing a trip later this week. But I am thinking of enclosing the filter box, so it only draws outside air. This only replaces the top hid of the OEM air box.

K&N Cold Air Intake Kit: Increase Acceleration & Towing Power, Guaranteed to Increase Horsepower up to 20HP: Compatible with 6.6L, V8, 2020-2021 CHEVROLET Silverado 2500 HD, 77-3103KC https://a.co/d/0tSCKGq

Well I took off the K&N kit and went back to stock. I just didn't like the extra under hood noise. But it did help. Better throttle response. And seems to have a little more power. So I sold it.

Randall,

What kind of noise made you take it off.

I'm thinking about putting an S&B on soon, but curious as to the noise you were hearing?

Stock is the best. Flow is more than adequate. Intake air temperatures are ideal as it draws from outside.

The only thing a "CAI" does on this truck is give intake noise, raise IATs lowering performance, or worsen filtration.

Sorry, but this isn't an LS1 Camaro and it's not 1998 anymore. Most all modern V8 vehicles are set up stock with plenty of breathing pipe size, and an enclosed filter box that draws from outside.

CAI's are pretty worthless for the street regardless of vehicle or situation. Their entire design is based on "less filtration" which is bad for the engine. Full stop.

No idea how you came up with that!  A good cold air intake has less restriction and better filtration with a LOT more filter surface area.  That is factual.

I vote the S&B dry filter.  I have a rotofab on another vehicle and it's great.  But I think the S&B is even better.  For sure much less restrictive.

The "noise" mentioned is the sound of the intake.  Music to my ears.  It's not even noticeable until you give it some gas.  In other words at steady cruise you don't even notice it.   But if that's a concern, the rotofab will be quieter as the S&B has an additional opening where the hood meets the fender.

Factual or not, it's not meaningful -for street use-.

I feel differently but that's ok.  Everyone has their own opinions.  That's what make the world go round.

Hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas.!

I think of it this way.  Regardless of fuel injection or carbs or computer, the engine is an air pump breathing through a straw.  The larger and straighter the straw, the more efficient the air pump is.  More efficient = more power and less fuel required for the same amount of work.

I agree with you.  But I will say this, the factory system works amazing and provides all the air that stock engine will ever need.  Now if we are adding a larger throttle body, some tuning, perhaps a turbo or supercharger...things change quite a bit.  But for the masses out there that will not be adding those super expensive items on their trucks, the factory system is all that is needed.
