2024 3500 oil leak

Its everywhere, I have a friend with a Trax thats been waiting for an emissions part for 3 months. He had a reputable source check on the part status and there were over 4000 on nationwide backorder.

I have the same leak and would like to know if it is just the leak that put your truck out of service? If I take mine in are they going to park it on me and leave me hanging with no vehicle?

Why would you keep a truck in service with an engine oil leak? The part is in the process of failure and leaking oil. It will eventually fail catastrophically and you will lose the engine. You run a risk of your warranty by keeping it in service. I had this discussion with GM. Some units have had catastrophic failure. Take it in and wait, also open a customer care case. That's all you can do. Good luck.

It would depend on what the vehicle was used for and where the leak was. GM and Ford has no problem with oil usage of 1qt per 1000 miles. If it’s not going to cause a fire or blow out to a quick drain, damn right I’d drive it. Call me when the part comes in. My trucks for many years service me and my equipment. If it moves I’m driving it. In most cases I’d fixed it myself.

46 days and dealer informed me they are still waiting on parts even though i was told parts were on the way 2 weeks ago from today.

Went this morning to remove all my personal belongings and 5th wheel hitch from the truck.

That's why I'm asking if it's serious enough to take it out of service, there's millions of vehicles on the road with oil leaks of some form or another. If the truck goes down I'm out of business until it's fixed.

My understanding is that once they know about it, if you then keep it and keep driving it and blow the engine then warranty is denied. But i could be wrong, just what i was told by an adviser at a bmw dealer.

Do you know what parts are needed for the repair? I see Rockauto has lots of oil cooler seals and parts in stock and they are GM parts.

LOL, this is funny. I wouldn't bother contacting them. After 50 days in the shop, I finally just went to pick my truck up. I'm now just driving it around with an oil leak while I continue to wait for the parts that are on galactic back order.

They offered to cover a couple months of car payments for my troubles. My payments are tiny so it was a joke. Might potentially be worth it for someone who did 100% financing, but means nothing to me.

I'm still seeking alternative solutions.

Good luck to anyone who has this oil leak. The outcomes are bleak.

I still have an RV stranded 400 miles away and I'm not sure I want to risk going to get it with this truck for fear the current leak could turn into a catastrophic blow out and leave me stranded on the interstate with a broken down truck and my 5th wheel.

I'm definitely not in a good place right now with this truck.

I thought vehicle manufacturers had low oil sensor for 1 or 2 qt low? My old truck has low window washer and coolant tank light. The new trucks have low brake pad sensors ( ridiculous). So they got to have a low oil light that comes on before damage. I’d pickup a couple of quarts a let her rip. Naaa I’d probably just trade it in.

I'd prefer to not be blowing oil out on the interstate and pulling over and topping off. You never know how severe of an issue it could turn into and that's just not a situation I, personally, would want to be in while pulling my rig far from home. I understand, to each their own, but that doesn't sound like a fun trip to me.

I'm wishing and hoping I get a surprise call that the parts have come in, but at some point I'll have to make a decision.

Do they cover a rental vehicle during the extended time without your truck? I have a two vehicle household with both vehicles being needed and used daily. If my truck was out for 45 plus days, i'd be screwed. We buy these trucks to depend on them. A few days here and there in the shop I can stomach, a continuous couple of months out of service is unacceptable. I had a similar issue with a 2018 Ford F150 during the peak of covid, Ford ultimately bought the truck back.

The norm has become pay 65-100k for a new truck, breaks down and sits because of a broken supply chain and the customer just has to deal with the "inconvenience". These manufacturers should be absolutely ashamed.

No loaner vehicle offered or supplied. I was fortunate to have a rusted out POS 2003 Ram 1500 as a backup. We've kept it around all these years just for these occurrences.
