I bought my truck new in 2020. I've been retired since 2012. It's the most expensive vehicle I've ever bought. I was concerned I was getting in over my head. As usual, bought it anyway. I was having coffee with a friend last summer when he received a call and asked if I would be interested in a lake monitoring job. Ended up taking the job. During the summer I work 6 hours a day, 4 days a week. Pays $20/hr cash. I'll have my truck paid off before the end of this summer. I monitor boats coming into the lake for invasive species. Unfortunately, this lake has very few boats coming in, so sometimes I go a whole weekend w/o seeing a boat. Do a lot of reading and fishing. Here's what a typical day at the 'office' is for me.

Happening with home insurance too. More and more home buyers are finding it difficult or incredibly expensive to find coverage. No insurance, no mortgage. Not a good situation.

I decided to forget what I pay for insurance on my precious gasser. But man it is painful.

Yes it is painful!!  And you're right, something has to break soon.  I can't believe it hasn't broken yet.  I'm still wondering how our overall economy is even existing at this point.

Money is a relative thing. To me, it's only money. I can't take it with me when I die and I've always had enough money to make my ends meet. So why not enjoy life?

FWIW, I have 5 vehicles, all 2019 and newer (4 of them are 2023), that are covered with full coverage insurance. I have a clean driving record, as far as insurance is concerned, and I pay $551 per month to State Farm for these 5 vehicles.

I'm 46 and single.

My newest vehicle is the minivan. Its purpose is traveling. Since I retired in 2015 I had a 2014 GMC, 2015 Santa Fe, 2017 Camry, a CRV and an Odyssey for that purpose. My mother in law quit driving that’s how I ended up with the CRV. My daughter had the Odyssey so we switched. The Camry went to a Granddaughter. I put about 25K a year on trip vehicles. My Avalanche is my personal daily. About 5-7K miles a year. Of all my work vehicles of the past the Avalanche is the favorite. The Genesis is my wife’s daily and going to church vehicle. The Acura Intagra type R was my wife’s going to town vehicle in 2001 when purchased new. After a year it was retired to a monthly joy ride investment vehicle. It’s appreciated times 4. We didn’t realize that when she got it. It was just another performance vehicle. She picked up my obsession. Her Genesis is a runner. Each vehicle not only has a purpose, it scratches an itch. Not one new vehicle does that. I’m always looking for a replacement vehicle usually for the trip vehicle. That’s the one I’ll change up. The others will probably be swap out for the same just better if I happen upon one. I’m always looking, every day. A clean Escalade Avalanche to replace my Avalanche. Another Odyssey to replace the current one. A lower mileage Genesis to replace her current one. Who knows? That’s the fun of it.

I agree.  That giant jump ours took for no reason at all got us close to 4k a year for just my truck and our 21 XLT Explorer.  I'm 57 years old.  It's not like I'm some kind of spring chicken out there.  I thought it was just because we live close to Atlanta, but then my high school classmates that live in mooseass Maine were saying theirs jumped big time too.  So I don't know.  Too much for too little.

It’s living in hotlanta, not you.

full coverage better than the minimum on my 2500 is 310/6mo. It was 290/6mo but it went up a little. But my area is extremely safe and crime free. That’s the biggest difference.

I thought that in the mid 70s starting out, we recovered. The difference now and the biggest concern is our border. It’s an actual invasion. All the safe guards that were put in after 911 and now this. Finally people are noticing, what a mess.

Wow! You guys got a lot of vehicles. Besides for my truck, we have a 16 CRV and an 03 Accord. My wife bought the Accord new and has always considered it 'her' vehicle. After retiring up here full time in 2012, we realized with an inch of snow, it's tough getting up our drive with the Accord. After burning up several tires and tempers, we bought the CRV. On paper the Accord wasn't worth anything by then, so we kept it. It only has 160K on it and I've taken good care of it. Park it in the winter. Wife still loves it. We are thinking about replacing the CRV with something more comfortable. Every insurance bill I get does up and the last claim home or auto that I filed was in 2001 (hail damage on a loaner vehicle). Crazy! All my kids are doing financially better than me, so dying broke is my goal. Just have to figure out how to get the timing right.

My wife’s Genesis is an 2011 with 132K miles is still like new. Her Acura is a 2001 with 30K miles on it. My 02 Avalanche was garage kept never driven in the rain looks new. I paid 5700$ with 168k miles on it 4 years ago it’s been flawless. The Odyssey is the one that gets worked. The trip vehicles get the abuse so the others get pampered. The Genesis is the one that would obviously be the trip vehicle for most. My wife loves it so much I keep the miles off. Living in Texas isn’t abusive on vehicles that helps.

Here's something I've been wondering about.  Due to the low price on the vehicle I tagged on this post, when a vehicle has been taken back for a lemon law claim, is that noted on the carfax or anywhere else?  Or better yet, what happens to vehicles that are reclaimed due to lemon laws?

A vehicle that new with those miles not a CPO. That would make me wonder.

Me too.  Not that I'm going to buy it due to the absurd bump in insurance cost but it does make me scratch my head a bit in wonder.  Like how is a lemon law vehicle marked so to speak?  Is it on the title perhaps?  Or is it something a dealership can take back, try to fix whatever was wrong with it and put it back on the lot with no notations at all that is bought back under the lemon law?

I bought one builder titled car. It was so cheap I took the chance. The title showed it was a builder. I’m sure they would have to disclose.

Not sure how it works in the US but I would call around for another quote. I know here in Canada it changes greatly with different brokers. Mine barely changed going from a 1/2 ton SLT to a 1 ton denali diesel.
