That does seem like a fair price for a diesel with that low of mileage, atleast for my area and what I've seen price wise.  Still doesn't get you that newer interior you've been talking up though haha.

I bought my truck new in 2020. I've been retired since 2012. It's the most expensive vehicle I've ever bought. I was concerned I was getting in over my head. As usual, bought it anyway. I was having coffee with a friend last summer when he received a call and asked if I would be interested in a lake monitoring job. Ended up taking the job. During the summer I work 6 hours a day, 4 days a week. Pays $20/hr cash. I'll have my truck paid off before the end of this summer. I monitor boats coming into the lake for invasive species. Unfortunately, this lake has very few boats coming in, so sometimes I go a whole weekend w/o seeing a boat. Do a lot of reading and fishing. Here's what a typical day at the 'office' is for me.

I did buy a new truck for my retirement. Prior to that I spent a few years just working around the office. My wife went through a spell of health problems she was our secretary. I helped her with her recovery. And filled in at that job. That lasted five years. I drove my toys the 8 miles to work. A 65 elcamino then a 65 pickup and finally a 92 heavy modified pickup. My rainy day vehicle was a Genesis coupe. My wife recently bought the sedan. All that was 10 years ago now. Finally with retirement approaching this was 12-31-13 I stopped at my GMC - Hyundai dealer got a deal on a Texas edition GMC. I hadn’t kept up with the (advances) of new trucks. Imagine my surprise when the V-4 light popped up. I’m was glad the vehicle I traded in was the coup not the old truck. After a year I decided I liked the old truck better. I later bought my avalanche. There isn’t a new full size truck that impresses me anymore. Maybe because I’m older. Fifty, sixty grand for a decently equipped trucks. No thanks. I not bad off either. Not when there’s great old used GM trucks around. If I needed one for work, that’s different. You can buy a great car for half the money. Trucks are my favorite vehicles, just not the over technology over price new ones. When people say 66K is a good deal the manufacturer laughs all the way to the bank.

IMHO...

Retirement is the time to have fun and spend some of that hard earned money you have invested over the years!

I retired in 2019 at 58-years old and have not looked back.

Part of my retirement plan is to have enough $$ to purchase toys and new vehicles when I want them.......otherwise I'd still be working.

Couple of my purchases since retirement...time to enjoy life, I worked to hard for 38-years.

In 2015 I retired at 58. I just bought a new truck, had a custom high performance truck, a sports sedan and a sports car. The only thing that’s changed for me Ten years later is my definition of got to haves. The hot rod truck has been replaced by an Avalanche, the new truck by a mini van for traveling the sport sedan and sport car are still enjoyed in their fullest potential. Same with my retirement.

Got a little story here, I do like telling stories as you all know.  Anyhow I called Rivard about that truck.  The salesman was really nice, all he needed was some detailed pics of mine because it would be a trade-in.  I sent him the pics and his response was wow, looks great, as it does in person too.  Not one ding or scratch anywhere.  So I asked him to see what they would offer for trade in on it fully expecting to be low balled because that Denali is around 10k plus cheaper than what KBB says it's worth.  He came back with an offer 1k below what KBB said was average trade in for my truck of which shocked the heck out of me.  I don't owe much on it but I still wanted a fair trade in for it.  After that pleasant shock I told him let me call my insurance agent and see how much more it will be a year over my custom model.  And that folks is where the anchors, emergency brakes and spoilers all dropped, locked up and flared.  I have a perfect driving record as my wife does too, perfect credit, low debt, you name it.  We are definitely in the higher ranks of being insured.  2k a year extra!!!  I damn near fell over.  Our insurance this past July went up 2500 for no reason, actually 1500 because they knock a grand off if you pay it all at once (yearly)....2k EXTRA......nope nope and hell no!!!  I had no idea the Denali's were that much higher over the custom models.  I get it this one was probably close to 90k or perhaps even a little bit more when new but holy hell.  Not happening.  Oh well.  I at least made the effort to educate myself on it.  Stupid insurance, nothing but a legal pyramid scheme.

Going from gas to diesel, right?

Yes.  Let me expand here a bit.  Going from a 22 Custom gasser to a 23 Denali Ultimate diesel.  I know, big difference in price there but still.  Let me edit here again.  Also my custom is a 2500, the Denali is a 3500 SRW.

These rising insurance rates are gonna break something. Just not sustainable.

I'm a little cautious on that new infotainment system from all I've been reading.  Hopefully most are working well and the internet is just magnifying those that have problems but still, it's quite a topic on most any forum I've looked at.

I agree.  That giant jump ours took for no reason at all got us close to 4k a year for just my truck and our 21 XLT Explorer.  I'm 57 years old.  It's not like I'm some kind of spring chicken out there.  I thought it was just because we live close to Atlanta, but then my high school classmates that live in mooseass Maine were saying theirs jumped big time too.  So I don't know.  Too much for too little.

Happening with home insurance too. More and more home buyers are finding it difficult or incredibly expensive to find coverage. No insurance, no mortgage. Not a good situation.

I decided to forget what I pay for insurance on my precious gasser. But man it is painful.

    • Progress... sort of.   Intake is disassembled, spider is out, fuel lines removed. Used a torch on the stripped screw with the lower intake off, much easier when I've got the intake sitting on my workbench, I made it talk. Walked right out with a pair of vice grips once it was nice and toasty hot.   New parts are piling up on my service cart waiting to be installed. Distributor, temperature sensor, new gaskets, fuel line kit, themostat, water neck.   My new pickle is I don't want to spend $600 on a replacement spider. I'm not sure IT is bad. I'm probably splitting hairs. Or it's $300 to send mine away and another 3 weeks of the truck just sitting. I have half a mind to assemble everything with the old spider to see if I can get away with just replacing the fuel pressure regulator to be safe. The obvious issue was the gushing high pressure fuel line which will be replaced. Getting to the spider really isn't that hard, and now I know what I'm doing , swapping it would be a breeze should it absolutely need one. Stupid, or smart?   The part that gives me pause is replacing the distributor. Well, it's already out. And I didn't mark it, whoopsie! Engine was at TDC when I removed it, I know that, so upon correct reinstall the metal tip on the rotor should point to the TDC mark on the distributor because that's where it was pointing on the old distributor. Worst case I'm a tooth off and have to re-stab it.   But then, what? I assume the truck will start. It doesn't appear the timing can be set. Here's the problem: These distributors can't be rotated but a degree or two, by design. What I read is Cam ****** needs to be -2 to +2 degrees, ideally at 0 (and checked/set above 1000 rpm). There should be enough wiggle to get that properly set, but checking the reported value is another potential issue. My Actron 9185 scanner says it supports enhanced GM PIDs and Cam ****** is one of them but it's unclear that I'll be able to correctly see it over OBD 1.5. I can see why people end up junking these things with life left in them. They're an absolute nightmare with tweener-year diagnostics/electronics and unobtanium parts.   Fingers crossed it starts and idles nicely. There can be hope, right? I'ma buy a lottery ticket the same day just in case.   Next steps..DO IT. I have not installed an intake before so I've been reading and watching a lot. Some say NO RTV except on china walls, some say DO RTV on water ports but not fuel/air intake. 1/4 or 3/8 bead on China walls? I think my strategy will be, obviously, RTV china walls with overlap on the gasket corners. Chapstick-style RTV the water ports. Leave intake ports dry. The only set of intake gaskets I could find locally are Edelbrock performance gaskets (uh...for an asthmatic 190hp V6? LOL) so we'll see how they do.   #NoToolLeftBehind. It took an hour, but my recovery mission for my deep 10mm socket was successful. It had rolled down the bellhousing and wedged itself between what I think are the fuel lines? I couldn't see it at all, but with a junk antenna I had laying around, I blindly went poking/sweeping for it, heard it clink, raised the truck, and caught a sliver glimpse of chrome with a flashlight way up there in Narnia. I had pushed it farther along the lines holding it captive, but within access of severely improvised tools, poking and cursing at it to finally knock it free to where I could get a fingertip on it to bring it home.    Not much to see.
