Looking to switch from the larger tow mirrors to the small mirror. Is it even possible?

It could've been order that way, so depending on options, I see no reason the non tow mirrors can't be swapped in place.

I did order it that way in 2022. When the dealer reordered it as a 24 they ordered it wrong. The only options are heated and power adjust.

Just power glass and heat?  Any lighting?  Blind spot indicators?

Gotcha.

There is a factory small mirror for HD that can be had.  84817038 (pass) and 84817037 (driver) for the mirrors.  DLN mirrors are power glass and heat.  No lights/signals, no power fold.  You also need 84732427 and 84732426 upper covers.  Those are the same finish as the mirrors, but you could also use one of the accessory mirror cap kits 84328137 (chrome), 84328136 (gloss black) or 84612941 (Summit White).

If ordering new ones, as far as the mirrors go, 84817037 is on national backorder.  To have any GM outlet (dealer or parts page) order, they will need a VIN that has that mirror as equipment on the build.  Here's one you should be able to use - Chevy Silverado 2500 HD | Vehicle Listing Details | Vehicle Locator (chevrolet.com)

If you give them your VIN, it will kick back in GM's system saying that part is not applicable to your VIN.

Yes.  These are the only small mirror they make for HD so they will be for both gas and diesel applications.

I don't want to be a pain. Is the wiring harness going to be the same on both trucks? Is there any place I can check with both Vin numbers?

Going to small mirrors you should be able to reuse the existing door wiring yes.

Finally got My mirrors. Tried the right one with the sensor first, started truck a couple times, seemed to be working temp, Adjust. So went ahead and changed the other side. Started truck Temp said -40 and the check engine light was on. Started it a few times and same thing. Unhooked the battery for a few minutes and everything seems fine now. Does this sound normal?
