Intended use.

'22 Sierra 2500HD SLE.

 

I attach photos so rarely that I hope I can correctly recall how.

 

Wondering what this "compartment" is for. It is on the inside of the lid on the fold-down middle front seat storage, and it is such a specific shape that I figured there was an intended use by the designers. I can't think of any article(s) that would fit. Any ideas?

Looks to me like it’s intended for an eyeglasses case.
 

I have a somewhat similar thing in the lid of my 4runner console that is specifically sized for a flat Kleenex box.  I would gladly use it if I could still get the boxes locally.

Thanks for the reply. My first thought, too, was that it might be for a glass case, but all the ones I have, and have seen, do not fit. Either too flat or too short or not tall enough, etc. As well, the shape, as can be seen, is six sided with the bottom half narrowing at an angle, as if it was made for something specific. If not, why not just make it rectangular like yours. The other thing is the clip just above it. I don't have any papers/stuff that fit that thing either. Weird, just thought someone would know for sure.

 

As I am going in to the dealer in a week or so for the tail-gate recall, I will ask them then (if they even know, I've asked about a few things in the past and haven't had much success).

I have to check to see if my '21 has that but never noticed it. I had a couple of Yukon's that had a slot for the soft pack Kleenex's and kept some in there all of the time. You might try that.

 

It's like the little tabs on sun visors of most vehicles. Some say for CC's but can't see that as it would eventually bend the card or it would fall out into the floor when you lowered the visor.
