My 2020 custom trail boss with the 4.3/6l80 has had 2 torque converters put in it.

Here are my questions.

Can I put a performance tcc in from a v8? (JMBX maybe?)

What is the stock stall speed, and how would going with a v8’s converter affect this application?

Would a higher stall cause an engine light or issues?

What size is my torque converter (I was told 258mm)?

I read that the flex plates are the same up to the 6.2….same parts numbers referenced in the schematics on GM parts websites. I can’t tune the TCM without swapping the valve body and TCM from an ‘18 or earlier truck, according to my research and some other posts on this forum.

When speaking to a transmission specialist at master transmissions, he said the most common cause is the torque converter locking up in every gear and eventually giving up. He suggested one with firm lockups (multi-plate) and stay close to stall speed….but go slightly HIGHER for v8 converter behind my v6…is this valid information?

Anyone have any suggestions? I don’t want to have to trade my truck in. I just want to nip this in the bud before it becomes a problem. Again. I don’t tow much, and my 4.3 gets up to 23 mpg on the highway (weird, I know), so a v8 isn’t necessary…I don’t need to swap.

Flexplate is the same as the L82 5.3 which used AFM.  The L84 5.3 (and the 6.2) use a different flex plate as those are DFM engines (all 8 cylinders are active cylinders).

Control valve body/TCM assembly is the same p/n as the older trucks.  Your real problem is HP Tuners does not support the 4.3 ECM for 2019-2021, just the V8s, so that's likely why there is no access.  The Edge Evolution CTS3, same thing they only support the V8s.

I can’t argue with that logic, however, the flex plate and torque converters show the same part number for the 5.3/6.2 all the way to present from 2014…. The 4.3 takes the same flex plate. Part numbers identical. I just need to know if an aftermarket converter will work from a v8, and what stall I could run to avoid drivetrain trouble codes on a stock 4.3.

Good questions to ask Circle D or Florida Converter. They wouldn't be guessing.

I spoke with someone at Circle D converter about it. They said I had a 258mm core…and didn’t give me any info. I asked Florida Converter….and never got a response.
