Ford guy here buying first gmc

Talk me in/out of the 6.6 gasser with 10 speed gmc built allison

Is this allison the same in the 6.6 gasser as the duramax?

Been seeing some horror stories about this tranny time I've been reading online extensively for the past 24 hours

First year in the gasser for this tranny ?

Just came from a ford with tranny issues

I don't know if I should back out of this deal from what I read online, hard shifts, valve body replacement etc etc etc

I really don't know what to do as there are engine/tranny issues with every brand every combo right across the board

Criticism is appreciated and hit me hard with straight up facts

Also, what the heck is up with all the ads on this site I could barley complete my profile

Cheers!

And thanks for having me

Well, it’s not an identical Duramax version tranny but mine is working great.

Takes a little doing to check and add fluid but that’s relative to one’s mechanical abilities.

Yes, first year for this hookup that I recall.

Maybe you should consider a Ram instead.

24 GMC here. I absolutely love my 10 speed gasser. I pull a 9k+ camper. It did excellent.  Traded a 22 F250 with the 7.3 Godzilla for it. Didn't like the Ford at all. Had a 2500 Cummins Ram and nothing but problems including transmission failure.  GMC Build quality seems way better than the Ford.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look into the ad blocker

No problem with the no dipstick for transmission I've dealt with that on ford's before

Not interested in a Dodge but thanks

Thanks for the reply we are getting rid of our 18 F150 with transmission issues ( CDF drum failure) at 75,000 kms

Never buying a half ton ever again no matter what brand/options

I'm keeping my other 2019 F250 6.2 gasser with 6 speed , that combo has served me well

Never drove the godzillla and not interested in diesel

Thanks for the reply

Only have 1600 miles on my 2024 but so far I really like the Allison with the 6.6 gas. Towed some fairly light loads over the weekend for the first time (5k-6k lbs) and it did very well even up some steep hills at highway speeds.  The 10 speed kept the motor rpms where they should be and it shifts quickly but not hard. Time will tell how the reliability will be but so far so good.

5500 miles on my 24 with 4500 of that towing about 5k with another 1k in the bed.  Nothing but good things to say about this gasser/Trans combo.

no experience with the 10spd but my 22 6.6 gas with 6spd has been awesome as far as engine and transmission etc. no oil burning and tried and true 6spd has been plenty good for me very smooth.

welcome aboard

  • Thanks 2
