Just wondering if anyone has had the brake controller recall done and did it fix your trailer brakes.

A little background on mine. I have a 2024 GMC 3500 Denali DRW and i pull a 46' toyhauler with electric over hydrauilic disc brakes.

Back when we got the trailer i found out about the TSB they had on the brakes but did not have time to hit a dealer for the TSB. I ended up ordering a controller via Amazon part number 23306694 and put it on. Brakes have worked great without issues for the last 9 months, no disconnects or service brakes mesage.

Fast forward to today i got the recall notice and decided to have it done while i was at the dealer having an oil change done. Before i took it in i decided to swap the original module back in and keep the one i bought just in case and im really glad i did. Did a 300 mile tow today and i had brake disconnect issues almost immediately, happened numerous times and twice in traffic while i was trying to slow down for lights. Needless to say not having brakes with a 24k trailer in traffic was not fun.. I ended up swapping the module back to the one i bought at a rest area and all is good now.

So what im trying to figure out is did the dealer install the correct module or even a new one? I did not take not of thee part number on the original unfortunately but i do have the one off what they installed. Its part number 85076315. What makes this work they did even more suspect is the condition of the controller they installed. See the picture below. That is what i took out today in a rest stop parking lot, notice all the corrosion on it. Its literally been 4 days since they did the work. No way that unit is that corroded in 4 days. The one that's been in there 9 months still looks new and my truck has never seen salt.... The original i reinstalled also looked new. I feel like the dealer installed a used module and sent me down the road. I wish i had taken note of the original part number, does anyone have it? Not sure what im going to do yet but im a angry for sure and i want toi get all my facts straight before i raise hell with the dealer and possibly GM.

I had my module replaced at the dealer and my trailer brake disconnects are fewer, but they still happen sometimes.  This is on a boat trailer with Hydrastar Electric over hydraulic.

I also have issues sometimes with the LED lights on the new trailer.  Seems like these trucks don't play well with new trailers and LEDs

I have only towed a few times(500 miles or so) with my 2024 Denali built in March of 2024. I have towed two of my trailers. Both have electric over hydraulic brakes. One is a Dexter and one is a Titan hydraulic controller. Neither have had issues.

Both trailers have only LED lights and I have disconnected the 12V feed from the truck on the trailer side. I think that is the most important thing to do.

You should be able to search by VIN on a GM parts web site and find your original part number as well as whatever the current replacement oart number is. If they left in or reinstalled your original it should have the original part number, where a recall would have used the latest part number I assume.

I had issues when I first purchased my truck. My travel trailer has a solar panel on it that triggered the trailer brake fault. I had to wait a couple months for the updated part. I installed a diode in the wiring on my trailer in the mean time. Once I got the updated (actually I think it’s the older part from 20-23 models) part installed, I removed the diode. No issues since the update with a couple of different trailers but all my trailers have basic electric brakes.

The TSB brake controller fixed the issue I had with my fiver where after the batteries were fully charged, the warning messages came on and persisted.

On another trailer, a 4 place enclosed with incandescent bulbs, it also works fine and flagged breaking electric brake wiring.  The wiring ended up breaking and the controller/trailer logic disabled the brakes and messaging.  I just use the engine brake for any extended downhill braking as the wheel brakes are more than good enough for an extra 6k lbs.

An unintended side effect is that the GM accessory camera I installed on my fiver works on startup but then "fails" after a few brake applications.  That's a $500 hit I wasn't prepared for.

Other than that, I've towed for over 9000 miles with no brake electrical issues on the truck side.

I too had the module recently swapped at an oil change. I have a 2022 Load Trail dump trailer I pull regularly and have noticed an improvement but not elimination of the disconnects.

I had this done about 45 days before it was a recall (determined it was the same part number) and haven't had any disconnects since. I have solar on my travel trailer and had constant disconnects before I wired in a breaker to turn off solar when towing. Now I can leave the solar on with no issues.
