Key Fob Cloning

Hello,

 

I was a very proud owner of a 2020 Chevy Silverado High Country fully loaded. However, until it was stolen last month. I also made the mistake of calling On-star after calling 911 to shut the truck down.( Another story) Our local police believe my key fob was cloned as when we finally saw the vehicle it had no damage to the steering column or wiring under the dash. There is much more to this story but I don't want to buy another truck until I know it isn't easily stolen. I would like to read what GM is doing to combat this problem?

 

I hope all truck owners read this and having cameras to watch your vehicle being stolen was no help.

Its a moving target. GM can make changes continuously and the thieves will defeat them. Its been that way forever. 

I have had simple kill switches on several trucks. You just have to disrupt power to one vital circuit to make it work.

Pretty easy to get a modern vehicle to not run in this day and age. Just about any one wire to a switch, and the truck is bricked, lol.

 

My thought is a 5 second timer on the fuel pump module - let the thieves think they've got it made ... then the truck dies in the middle of the street, where you can play baseball with them with a nice aluminum bat. 

 

There are other, much easier ways ... but you're in CA. Worse than where I'm at, and that's saying A LOT!
