Texas has eliminated safety inspections. The exception is emissions in some counties. I don’t agree with this. You can walk around any parking area and see questionable tires on vehicles. I always walk out with a visitor to check their tires. I didn’t know my third brake light was out until inspection. In NJ when I got inspection they even raised the front and wiggled the tires. Then hopped in and hit a skid pad. A inconvenience for sure. I didn’t have a problem with it. This new law will definitely make the road less safe. The emissions test, ridiculous but that’s how they roll. People will avoid getting their vehicle tested if the light is on. It cost more money to pass emissions if the light is on. A tire is pretty cheap. Our government is backwards as usual.

No more yearly safety inspections in Colorado. IMO due to cost and they don't care, which I don't blame them. Keep yourself safe and it you won't suffer the consequences.

Friday night we got a fast 3-4 inches of snow at rush hour, unbelievable the number of cars that didn't have enough traction due to what  I assume to be bad tires. It caused total gridlock. We have annual inspections with emissions, before emissions they were twice a year

After about 4 years tires lose wet weather traction. People don’t realize that. I don’t drive my truck when the roads are wet. They look new but are 5 years old. I change my trip vehicle tires at 50 percent. Those southern downpours at high temperatures will spin you out in a blink.

I'm glad to see Texas drop the inspection (not the fee though). It was annoying taking one of my cars to get inspected every other month or so. Now if we could just get rid of the front license plate requirement...
