HID's installed!!

and MAN do they look awesome!!! they were kinda a pain to install. ballasts and ignitor wires were not long enough, so i had to kinda mess with it to get it in. aimed the headlights and it just looks gorgeous! i still need to give it time to "break in" i could tell that when i started to drive home from work (where i installed em') they were not soo bright, but by the time i was near home, about 10 min after turning them on, the beam pattern just spread wide!!! nice clean crisp white with a hint of blue light. Trust me, pics are comin soon..got to get my digi cam back from my bro! also, when i go over some puddles or icy spot, the light reflects REALLY CRISPLY!!! it looks awesome...no words for it, gotta see in person! overall, i think when they get broke in, they should really improve the lighting! note: i am using the halo housing. and my wiring is stock..so far it held up (knock on wood). basically, the bulbs use 35watts but the initial start up is what kills the system, uses like 20K Volts...thats a lot, but thats what the ignitors are for. after a few seconds, voltage is next to nothin compared to before.

well, i don't think i have much else to say, if any of u guys got questions let me know!

This is on your 96 burb?

I would like to find out where you got your kit from, price etc.

I put projector housings in my Tahoe and would like to get the HID kit to go with them.

hey 99.

u said u have projectors??? do u use a 9006 bulb or a H1??? cuz i have a 9006. also, where did u get ur projectors from, i need a set badly, the halo housing i have doesn't control the output like i want it to. let me know...

also, if u would like, u could buy my kit. i might sell it if i need to buy new projecotrs that use the H1 bulb. otherwise, i'll let u know where to buy.

here are some pics:

Here is a pic of the housing:

Projector housing on Tahoe

They are made of tempered glass instead of plastic. I am not sure where they are from or what they cost, they were on another truck that I bought and sold. I swapped the lights with mine before I sold it. I bought the markers and corners on eBay to complete the package.

They use the stock bulbs, whatever number that is.

Pics look real good Aj. Any problems with people flashing their highbeams at you?

I may have a solution for your wiring issues...a headlight booster harness. Jegs sells them, I believe they are made by Painless Wiring. www.kennedydiesel.com also sells a similar booster harness but it is more $$$.

If you havent seen them before they basically take the strain off of the stock wiring and improve light output when using high wattage bulbs. Power is pulled directly from the battery, and your stock wiring/switch just turns on the relays. You can also wire it up to have all 4 beams on when you turn on the highbeams.

I do have a few questions, as I am considering doing this myself, so bear with me. Where did you mount the ballasts? How long do they take to warm up to full brightness? I also saw in one of your posts on another forum that you got them locally. Where did you get them from?

Let us know if you go with the projector housings...I'd be interested to know if they make a difference with the beam pattern and the affects to oncoming traffic. Those halo housings dont impress me too much.

hey MN

well, for the wiring issue, i don't think its a big deal. see the problem is, the guys who told me to upgrade my wires told me b/ they thought HIDs are high wattage lights. actually, they are 35 watts. stock wiring can handle 15 amps of current. with HIDs we run about 6 amps... total system, parkin lights, etc..uses about 12 amps... soo we will be fine with the stock wiring

as for ur questions, i ended up buyin online. i have a source, i can tell u about that privately..

i mounted the driver side ballast and ignitor in the tool box. on the passenger side, the ballast is next the the airbox on the fender and the ignitor is next to the battery on the fender.

as long as they are aimed right, u will have no problems with blinding people. i aimed them very well (i think) and soo far no angry people.

for the housing, i hear that the angle eyes housing is the best one out there for out trucks. they fit very well and light ouput is a lot better than stock. i am still lookin for a proj housing that uses the 9006 so i can keep my kit but i can't seem to find one. all proj housing uses is H1. i "think" that will better the light output just b/c it is controled...but im not 100% sure. i know a guy who has the proj and HIDs and he said it is awesome! but he has the H1 bulb. soo until i see someone in person who has proj...then i'll decide what to do...but for now, its lookin really nice! check out my site for pics..the last page, last pic is the best representation of the ouput...

the bulbs are still in break-in process..it takes 50 hrs to do so.. but i can tell already its better than when i first turned them on.

hope this helped..let me know if u have questions...
