New York State is deyocks about having two plates, they won’t think twice about writing out a ticket for only having a rear plate on a vehicle

Pennsylvania around 2016ish give or take a year.....   They only issued 1 plate anyway, and then went to NO tag/s.

I retired and left the east coast, PA then. I had one plate on my pickup, no or an outdated tag on my pickup, Harley, and camper, i ( think ) i took a heat gun and took off the tag vs had an out of date tag on stuff. I transferred to a domicile adds the next years, couldnt wait to go back to what most places do. I traveled fulltime for 8 years, now do both, travel but with a base. Its nice to be simple with both plates and tags.

As you mentioned, just a reason to get pulled over, for 1 plate then try and explain that and the no or outdated tag. Just a currant registration paper.

If I get a ticket I'll let you know, at least then you won't feel quite so bad LOL. For quite a few years now the front side windows do have a slight factory tint as years ago glass was always clear. The side windows in the rear seating area and the rear window have a darker tint although up close can still look into the cab as you know yourself from your own pickup. What these custom tint companies do though for customers who want it is really darken the legally darker factory tinted windows for example and then in the one example they showed me of a truck they just completed that sat outside was 15% tint on the drivers/passengers windows and with the rear windows really dark it just darkened up the interior to even look into the windshield to see who would be inside the vehicle. I said to the owner of the business, doesn't that just scream "Give me a ticket Officer !" and he laughs as he agreed, it did. It looked very nice but that would be asking to be stopped or if stopped for another reason to have that thrown at one as well. I am only guessing in the hot southern states they allow some tint on front side windows ?

Speaking of the tag on the license plate for showing its valid for the current year, Alberta did away with that three or more years ago which I imagine means their computer system in their cruisers are able to figure out if its valid etc before they even get out of their vehicle to then ask for the registration, or that is my assumption ?.

Yeah. All the cars pretty much have plate scanners and they know before they even stop you it’s expired. But here we treat all this stuff as serious criminal stuff, but actual criminals are given a slap on the hand and back on the street within an hour with an appearance ticket

The same crap is going on here too in Canada, how odd that is that both of our countries seemed to be in lock step with how they are handling the criminals ... its like they want them to be out on the streets causing crime. We never used to have tent cities either, that all changed when the liberals got into power 10 years ago and then started handing out free drugs to keep those hooked .... hooked.

Oh and on a note about your pickup, I imagine at some point you might want to change the model of the truck you drive as yes I have noticed various ones on here talking about a totally different/newer vehicle than what their description lists although some list past vehicles as well to give a background history.

In Ontario, the yellow sticker is just for commercial vehicle inspections.

Abut the window tint, yes there are standards and a lot of vehicles look like the don't meet them, but it's been afes since I heard of anyone being ticketed. When I got the brow tint on my truck last fall the customer following me, wanted whatevever wouldn't draw the attention of the cops. I'm not sure if she was speaking from experience or not.

My truck came w/ the same 'mud guards' as Lp's. I looked at the GM site & not going to spend a pile of money for the GM pieces. Weathertech's guards won't work w/ the OEM pieces.

Speaking of being able to seeing T.O. from WNY, when I was living in Oshawa & happened to be in the higher elevations away from the lake, I could see the stack from the powerplant near Olcott.

Ontario eliminated the 'birthday stickers' on cars & pickups under a certain GVW. I have to buy the for my new truck. In the past dealers were registering 3/4 tons @ the bare minimum. I think a hockey bag & case of beer would put it over the rating...

There has been some talk here about travelling out of province w/ an out of date sticker or none. People were saying, just remove it & hope the cop thinks the sticker is on the front.

That stack at somerset just got imploded a month or so ago, I’m about 6 miles as the bird flys from where it was

In Alberta I can't say for sure about true commercial vehicles as per requiring a sticker yet, while I have vehicles that are considered commercial in a sense, my 3500 as well as all other pickups and highway tractors on our farm are farm plated and have a "farm" sticker on them as well as a different number/lettering scheme. I got a letter in the mail from Alberta registries after licensing it and the wording was totally confusing so I called the office as it made it look like I had to get a safety done on it, well that is not what it meant but it meant "if" I was to be hauling something out of province I would need to be running a log book and all of that crap just like a commercial vehicle. The same would apply for our highway tractors and why we have never hauled out of province as its all an expensive hassle. So I said if this truck is out of province it won't be for farm business but being used as transportation or as part of an RV and she said then its fine, not to worry about the warning letter I was sent. Unless one specifically buys a 2500 that has the special under weight GVW ( just under 10000 pounds I believe ? ) most 2500 trucks these days are over that weight class so still fall into the same potential commercial classification anyway. The cheapest license fee in Alberta I believe is for under 5500 pounds but its not much more for vehicles over that and so again with the farm theme all of our highway tractors would be licensed for 140000 lb and that is the same as the fee for my 1 ton truck. If the highway tractors were licensed commercially, I've lost track but its probably over 4000.00 or more a year.

I looked up the weathertech and if they showed the correct photo for the chev, that did not look like the ones on that truck at the dealer. I am pretty positive that trail boss had the standard factory length splash guards and then who knows where they got those flaps that had a molded line that fit the profile of the splash guard perfectly. I don't see them as a listed accessory on the chev site, maybe the dealer sourced them from elsewhere and for all I know that truck might have been sold and sitting in the show room like I requested mine to be stored for a few days as it was gone when I picked up my truck.

Don't get me started on farm plates. 😉 Fancy schmancy pick ups that dont see dirt I dont have a problem w/ but seeing little SUVs that a 25 pound bag of driveway ice melt would put it on the bump stops is another story.

There is 1 guy here that owns the family farm but no actual farming takes place that has them on the vehicles. How he gets away w/ it I don't know. Another family that I know sold all their cattle a few years ago (retired) but kept their acreage. Since no income is farm related they just have the usual black & white truck plate on their pick up, no FARM on the side of the plate.

LOL, that is no surprise that a few out there would try and pull a fast one but I just don't see how the insurance company would even do that for them as if its not on the insurance as per being a farm vehicle, the licensing branch isn't going to issue a farm plate. Its hard to say as it is possible that magic is happening accounting wise that you can't see that makes it look like he has farm income, even though actively you see nothing. But a small suv with a farm plate, that sounds a little out there.

I have to wonder about the flaps I saw and were on all four corners, Husky makes flaps out of thin plastic that are meant to mold to the lines of the existing short splash guards, its possible they were that brand. I wouldn't even know who to ask at the dealership to find out what the story was. I did notice something very odd though on that trail boss, the upper A arm on at least one side was complete rust, like it had never been painted.

New York just finally let us put passenger plates on hd trucks, before the law was 5500lbs and under vehicle weight got passenger plates 5501lbs and over got mandatory commercial, and under 5500 if business purpose was commercial plates… for yearsssss we have said “but I’m not a business it’s a personal use truck” and the dmv flipped the bird to us, now we can get a “modified exception” and with a weight slip (or mso) get passenger plates if we meet certain criteria’s (personal/non business use, it has a camper in it, or has seats and belts mounted in the bed)

Seats and belts in the box. Aren't most jurisdictions outlawing that?

You should cross the river & see the POS pickups cut down for hauling orchard workers around. Old GMT400s & F150s (only identifiable by the front end sheet metal) w/ the frames extended & plywood attached. Add a SMV triangle you're good to go...

    • Declaring victory would upset the demons that possess this Blazer, so I won't. But I did make progress today--after it put up a fight. Always a fight.   I had the day off so I spent the morning cleaning up the shop and I thought I'd get ahead of things by filling the cooling system in prep for the final part I needed to arrive: the driver's side knock sensor. Glug, glug, glug....and then the unmistakable sound of liquid hitting the shop floor. It induces the same chagrin when the sonar and targeting laser temporarily malfunction during a late night bladder evacuation over the toilet with the bathroom light off. D'OH!!! That made a mess...   Oh, hey, that knock sensor I removed? It threads into a wet port. Who knew?! Learn something new every day. Put a pin in that chore, I'll fill it the rest of the way later.   The knock sensor arrived at about 1pm. I threaded it in, connected the wire, filled up the coolant, checked for leaks, and... drumroll.... fingers crossed for a perfect start, excellent timing, model fuel trims, and ...no squeaks... Here goes.....   No, it didn't start. At all. I cranked it a few times and it wasn't sounding good. Furthermore, I heard leaking again. Jesus H Tapdancing Christ, stop leaking all over the dang floor. This time I had accidentally overfilled the coolant reservoir and the churn of the water pump via cranking caused a bit to burp out. Ok, just, breathe... Put the flamethrower down. Dang thing wouldn't burn anyway, leaks too much...   Did you know the rotation of a round crank sensor in a round hole, matters? I do now. Took me about half hour to retrace steps and realize what I had done. Then it started right up.   No squeaks. The squeak was the old balancer.   Once it entered closed loop, fuel trims are dead on, hovering right around zero at idle. No more -30%. I'll credit the injector rebuild on that one.   Timing? I think there's an OBD 1.5 translation error with my Actron scanner. It's anywhere from -20 to -30 at idle, sometimes as high as -40 cruising. Sorry, the engine just isn't running that smoothly at -40 degrees ignition advance. It's just not. It's smooth all through the rev range and has decent power. I'm going to have to trust the seat of my pants on this one.   The new exhaust is very quiet. The old catalytic converter? Not melted, but definitely not healthy. Rains glitter when you turn it on its end...all the precious metal is flaking out. Once the new exhaust system burned in/smoked off a bit, the engine's exhaust smell is normal again. Not that I'd recommend going around huffing car exhaust, but, you know what I mean?   One problem to correct. The new exhaust has the opposite problem of the old spliced up exhaust. It wants to hit the floor where the old one wanted to rest on the cross member. Happy medium, please? Still noodling on that one, need to look at how I can adjust some hangers.   I don't know what's next. On one hand I want to run away from this thing as far and as fast as I can -- there have been a lot of NOT fun moments. On the other, now that it kinda drives nice, maybe drive it around for a little bit?   Shhh... it's not currently dripping oil all over the floor. I can see just a little wet at the bottom of the timing cover where it meets the oil pan seal. It's not dripping multiple drops with every ignition cycle, in fact, after some driving this evening it has yet to even form a drop that could drip off yet. But the weekend is young... I fully expect this could turn into Exxon Valdez by Sunday. Because this Blazer hates me. LOL.
    • About that:   Once upon a time in a land far far away lived a car company that was shy about taking your money and wanted to be sure that they gave you more that you asked for so that you'd come back. No really, not a fairytale. 😱   But after the field got thinned out enough to limit the competition it seemed good enough to give you only what you asked for. Fair enough I say but in such a market you have to give something the others are not or they go to the one who does. Gimmicks or glitz. Oh, fins and chrome. Yea, shinny crow like cars. Yum.    Field narrows a bit more and 'brand loyalty' becomes a thing and the minute it does they start thinking to themselves, "Could we make more money if we gave them less than they expect and they will hang in there for brand and comfort with the known?" They gave it a try and da*n, it worked!!    Well, what if we teach them, groom them into believing that less is "Normal" and cut some more corners. Will that work? Oh heck yea!    🤔 I wonder, can we give then WAY less than they expect and make them mad enough to spit nails and STILL get them to pay up? Sure, if we get everyone else to do the same so that the choice is less or nothing at all. How would be do that? Platform sharing.  What a concept, right?  Steal like there is no tomorrow and it's legal too!    Truth is no one is going to give up driving, not for very long. The Gen Z crowd is fine with it and will be as long as someone not Gen Z will haul them around. At some point we all die.    Economic voting only works if you cast a NO vote now and again and enough of them to get dumb and dumber to wise up. Well, that's how I was taught anyway. And it should have worked. Would have worked. But the Bail out!!   Look, you have another choice if  you take that bag off your head. If the dumb it down to some predetermined expectation of how John Q Public will use it the, that is under design it to failure they you use it to a lower stress mode. D'ho!    A 1950 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 will go anywhere a Suzuki Hayabusa will and for just as long. But you will have to treat it for what it is and not for what you wish it was.
    • Maybe I was just too unlucky, but I had nothing but bad luck with Bridgestones. Out of 3 sets, they all started losing a lot of air when they got down to about 1/2 tread life, and at that point also wet traction suffered more than it should have. Also, the only tire I ever had in my 60 years of driving that had a side wall blow out was a Bridgestone.   I'm currently running Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT and am very happy with them.
    • maybe when the trip is over, check all the other joints in the front end, like all the ball joints, tie rods, pitman & idler arms, etc...
    • Thks, and actually it was my bad, because here in this post there is someone showing the correct wire position as well. My bad... But thank you a lot with the help as well. I was able to find and buy a 10 channel VPM that came from a sister silverado of mine. The same year, same mode, same trim, same everything. 2022 Silverado 1500 LTD LTZ (pre-refresh). I also found to buy just the bottom mirror part that has the cameras, so way cheap than the full mirror. + a used front camera. I did test everything together, cameras, cables and the VPM.... everything worked EXCEPT my original Bed camera and the backup grid lines. I think the reason is because now I need to do the VPM reprogram. I sent a msg White Automotive & Media Service to confirm that it is the problem and that they can do it service for me case.   Once I get it 100% done I will post here result....
