Just finished up ball joints, rear brakes, now moving on to fronts and planning on wheel hubs while I’m there. Two questions. 1) Should the hub mounting bolts be replaced or can they be reused? 2) I get two different part numbers for the bolts 15719028 and 11546341. They seem interchangeable but one seems to have 21.5 OD and the other 24 OD. Called the dealer and they did verify both are shown but only stock 15719028.  Hoping someone can verify the difference and which is the correct one?  It’s for a 2017 Sierra 1500,

Hub bolts are supposed to be replaced, same for spindle nut if you a front differential.

15719028 is the one for the hub bolts.  That's what we use.

Per the service manual:

The hub mounting bolts are not one time use and are re-usable.

Aluminum knuckles use a U shaped washer that has to be there when installing.

Here is the warning in the procedure:

  • Vehicles equipped with aluminum steering knuckles come equipped with hardened steel washers located between the steering knuckle and the front wheel hub and bearing assembly bolts.

  • The hardened steel washers MUST be reinstalled or the fastener tightening measurement may be inaccurate.

The axle nut and washer are ONE TIME USE.  Replace those.  11609826 x2 nut and 15522089 x2 washer.

As for the mounting bolt difference, 11546341 seems to be mostly for aluminum knuckle trucks.  I'm guessing as to how it fits with that washer?  larger flange diameter under the head of the bolt perhaps?

Both style hub mounting bolts have the same torque spec of 133 lb ft.  Axle nut is 188 lb ft.

Thank you! This is exactly what I needed.  I’ve heard both ways on replacing the bolts, but was prepared to. Assuming they are not torque to yield like the axle nut makes sense not to need to replace them at nearly $10 a piece.  Thanks for the call out on the washer as well, I would have missed that.

The washer will only be needed if you have aluminum knuckles.  If you have steel, don't need.

Right.. I was referring to the axle nut washer. Didn’t realize that was there and needed replaced also.

Completely unrelated, I was just crawling underneath and noticed a missing swaybar bracket bolt, which may explain  a random faint clunk I’ve noticed. Not the stabilizer link but the bracket that holds the sway bar bushing. Any chance you would know what size that is?

IF you have an aluminum knuckle, you MUST replace the U shaped washer that is between the bolts and the knuckle.  22884085 is the washer x2 of those.

My plain reading of that is that the hardened steel washers just need to be reinstalled, not that they have to be replaced.  Does it say elsewhere that they need to be replaced?

Yes you are right I misread it when writing my post.

Fixed my post.
