2001 chevy silverado security issue.

Truck always things it's being stolen, engine cranks but it won't fire up and securty will flash. It actually starts flashing as soon as you open the door for the truck and they key isnt even in it yet. Sometimes it will start perfectly fine, but most of the time it will not. I've don't alot of research over time, this is for my dad's truck and it's been a problem for over 10 years but it has gotten to be alot more frequent.  I've been told about the chip key and the relearn process, however the key that we have does not have a chip in it.  which leads me to believe the relearn process will do nothing no matter how many times we do it. Ive read about the passkey resistor, the total bypass with the ignition wires, and about the ecm box replacement. Im wondering though since we dont have a chip key, which is the most  logical part to buy?   So if anyone out there can point us in a good direction I would really grateful!

Our local Ace Hardware made a chip key for my 2015 Silverado for$100.00; that's a lot less than the dealer. I suggest you give them a call and have your VIN,title, and/or registration with you.

ouch.  that is SUCH a ripoff, as the blank key w chip retails for under $20...

 

It would be somewhat reasonable if you don't have any key for the truck, so they need to program the new key as the master key for the truck, but somehow I think they would charge extra for this...

The keys for this years truck does not have a chip in it. From the manufacturer.

If it didn't have a chip in it it wouldn't have a security system. Do the relearn or get someone with a tuner to shut the system off

I had it tested at the hardware store, and it showed no chip. He went out to started the truck today and it wouldnt fire. He waited an hour then tried again, and it started 3 times. In a row. My 2000 cavalier did not have a chip key, but still had a security system.

What is this tuner you mentioned that can shut the system off?
