2003 left over silverado LT Z71, what should I pay

Hi all,

I found a left over 2003 brand new Z71 EC SB LT silverado, the truck has most all options exept (XM, Fenderflares, and 4 wheel steering)

the sticker is $37K, the dealer said he would sell for $29,600.

My father in law bought the twin to this truck in october, and paid that same price (at the same dealer) the dealer said there was a $3000 rebate then, and this is the best he can do now? I walked away for now.. since I think I should be able to buy the same truck 5 months later for cheaper?

what do you think its worth? in 5 more months the truck (as far as the used marked is concerned) is 2 years old.

thanks

Kelly blue book show a used retail price of $31,700 with only 50 miles.

The deal I would make is $31,200 then subtract all the GM incentives and throw in a spray in bedliner (if you want one) or the $29,600 plus the spray in bedliner

I paid less than $31,000 for my truck in July. The deal he is giving you still seems high to me. See my signature for my truck specks.

I bought my 2003 Z71 ext cab in September for $24,500. almost every option except : XM, onstar & power seats. Dealer wanted $30,000. I agree w/ the other post though, start at 30-31k and throw in every incentive, depreciate & then take off at least another $1500.

Depends on if you live in a rural area or the city. Town prices are usually less because the dealers are more competitive.

I bought my 2003 Chevy Z-71 LT 5.3 - all options, including flares, but no XM -- last year. MSRP was $37,205 and I paid $26,288. Yes, it was for cash and, yes, the truck was advertised in the Portland, OR newspaper (one of those "12 at this price."

2004 loaded Z-71 LTs (common MSRP about $37K)are advertised currently in the mid-27,000 dollar range.

To put it in perspective, Tahoes and Suburbans are currently $11,500 off MSRP. Town and Country Chevrolet (Milwaukie, Oregon) has 20 at that price. Yeah, you only have a limited selection, but the price is very compelling. I bought a loaded Tahoe about ten months ago and consider the deal to be a good one.

With the "Power Pack" savings and rebates, you might be able to get a 2004 for close to that price.

On leftover 03 models what's happening is the dealer has to buy the vehicle from GM. When the dealer buys the vehicle that warranty starts at that time. I would find that info out.

Huh?!?

The dealer already owns the vehicle, GM does not. The factory warranty starts on the in-service date (the date you take delivery of the truck). It has nothing to do with how long the dealer keeps it...

I think kclm7 is right. My wife and I found a 2002 Montero holdover and got what we thought was a great deal, only to find out that the first year of the warranty had already passed. The dealer explained (two months after we had bought it) that because it was no longer considerred a "new" car that the warranty had started when they took ownership of it, not our purchase date. You can get a good deal on this truck by going after the extras listed above. The dealership can recover the cost of the accessories pretty easily.

Very interesting...please disregard my previous post then...now I must go research this!!! This is something that I have never heard of and I probably shouldn't have said anything until I read into it...

SEA............YOU are correct ! On a New/Untitled/Leftover MSO

GM vehicle the mfr. warranty starts on the day it is purchased

by you/whomever and mileage starts also no matter what miles the dealer put on

it !

UNLESS it was titled to someone else.... then its USED

Other vehicles......I don't know about them...I just know GM...geo

As far as a vehicle being considered "new" or "used," the vechicle is new up until the day it is first titled. If the dealer allows someone to take it for a test drive across the state and back, and that person puts 4,000 miles on it, but decide not to buy it, and then you come along and like it, it is considered a "new vehicle." Even though it has mileage on it and the new car smell is gone. As far as the warranty goes, it starts the first day the vehicle is titled. So when you actually buy it with 4K already on the clock, the standard 3 year/36,000 mile warranty will last you for 3 years or until the clock says 40,000 miles, etc. So, if you bought your truck when it only had 5 miles on it, the factory warranty actually lasts until 36,005!

Listen, I work PT at a GM dealership. On last model year vehicles the dealer can buy them (don't know all the exact details). For example, we had some 02 Grand Prixs and a 02 Firebird leftover early last year. The dealer bought them and the warranty started when the dealer bought them.

Yes, on a current model year new vehicle the warranty doesn't start until the customer buys the vehicle but on previous year new vehicles that's not always the case.

He came back with the best price being $29,100 but I had to act RIGHT NOW!! or the deal would not hold up for even a couple hours? I hate when they do that so I walked.

Sounds like some of you guys got much better deals when

when the truck was not even as old as this one.. My concern is in 5 months the truck (on the used market) is 2 years old already. This truck is almost a leftover leftover.

If he came in at $28K I would prob buy it..

Yeah, you made a good choice by walking on that one. Keep an eye on Rebates for the 04 models. They may change tomorrow and get better. With this whole gas price issue sales of larger SUVs and trucks is going to slow which will probably cause the incentives to get better. Plus, the 04s have more HP.

    • Whoever greenlighted the work truck matte black front bumpers on every trim but the AT4X should be fired!  I was hoping that was an AI mistake, but just realized they were on every model of the 2027 Silverado too.     Some parts of the interior do look premium, but the Denali Ultimate dashboard looks like an afterthought.  At least they appear to have lost the microfiber the high end Silverado models showed, but the '27 High Country dash looks better than the Denali.
    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.

    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
