Got my exhaust done!

On Friday, I rolled into the exhaust shop and got a Borla cat-back dual exhaust system done on my truck. 3" piping in and 2 1/4" piping out. I am VERY satisfied with what I got. It's not too loud, but it sounds very clean and aggressive. I noticed a definite pick-up in low-end torque. The whole thing costed me $620, including the kit, two angle-cut chrome tips, and installation -- and it was cheaper than buying a Borla kit online.

ok, not trying to flame you or anything, but am I missing something here? Going to an aftermarket, more free-flowing exhaust is supposed to give you more top-end and consequently low-end suffers. It's simple physics.

That's what I'd say too....but...the truck has A LOT more pick up on the low end now than it used to.

The guy doing my exhaust, has the exact same truck as me. Well, its an 03 GMC 1/2 ton extended cab short box 4x4 5.3. He just did a Magnaflow 3" in/2.5" dual out the back and swears he picked up low end torque and top end.

So, I'm doing 3" in, and 2.5" out. Everyone says 2.25" but he said go 2.5. And so did 2 other exhaust shops I called.

So, thats what I'm doing.

It totally escapes me why anyone would take a new warranted truck and cut up the aluminized and stainless steel parts of its exhaust system to put on something that well last no where near as long. Just plain crazy! The muffler shops and techs have got to be laughing their a$%'s off over this all the way to the bank!

Yep. Though having new sound is somewhat tempting, I couldn't see putting on an aftermarket exhaust while my stock is still good. Of course many people do mods of all types and levels here. So I respect people's desire for change.

Snoman, while I see your point, some of us are just different and want to customize our trucks to make them different and unique compared to the masses. Not only does an aftermarket exhaust look and sound better, but it gives the vehicle more horsepower and all of this while NOT voiding the factory warranty or sacrificing reliability. Once the customizing bug has you, you don't want to stop doing things to make your ride different and better. That's what makes everyone different. We can all do whatever we want to our trucks, be it leaving it stock, or turning it into a full on custom ride.

I replaced mine with aluminized and stainless parts with a lifetime warranty, vs a warranty that I have to fight for like a murder conviction with GM. Like they told me the Steering shaft clunk was my fault last time I brought it in, real good warranty service...

I was happy to have mine replaced... as I was to get the gas mileage and performance increase.

It all just comes down to personal preference.

I could tell an improvement in gas mileage as well as performance with the addition of my exhaust.

Although, I do have a Wester's tune, which I think helped a lot, I didn't lose anything. With TM lowered, the low end is a lot stronger than stock, mid range and upper RPM ranges are a whole hell of a lot better. I was going to go with 3" to 2X2.25", but I figured since the pipes aren't mandrel bent, they'll squish down to 2.25 when they went over the axle anyways, so I went with 3"-2X2.5", I like it, and everyone else whose ridden in the truck seems to agree. No drone on the highway, and it talks back really nice when I step into it...

Well, I got my 40 Series on. Sounds good, but not as loud as I would of liked. Did 3" in, dual 2.5" out the back, with 3.5" chrome slash cut tips.

I feel like I picked up some low end torque, despite everyone saying you would lose it. I live in some hilly terrain, so I really notice low end torque.

Also, picked up some top end, as passing feels quicker.

I wonder if there is any way to make it louder? High flow cats? Headers?

Get a K&N FIPK. That'll help make it a little louder and a little more noticable response.

I have to say, it is nice to have something other than stock that will catch the ear and turn heads...

It is awsome to accelerate and see heads turn to see where that sound is coming from... I know I am guilty of doing it too...

Mod buffs are always looking...and listening....

I wonder if there is any way to make it louder

I had my 40 series dumped before the rear axle, its louder and cheaper ($170 instaled) than pipes out the back. My freind had his true dualled and dumped before the rear axle and that was a tad louder and deeper than mine.
