2005 Sunroof Option

I placed an order several weeks ago for a 2005 GMC 2500HD CC D/A w/ sunroof & other things. I just got info on my production week. That is the week of Jan 3. I had my dealer call his GM rep and find out why it was going to take so long before it was built. Well come to find out. The sunroof is the delay. Can anyone tell me if there is a sunroof shortage or something like that. That would cause this big delay. It would be nice to hear from someone in the UAW Local 598 in Flint. I was targeting a Dec. delivery. Can this be moved forward w/out removing the sunroof from my order. Thanks in advance for your comments.

When the sunroof option appeared on the first descriptions of 2005 truck features, I thought it said that the sunroof option would be available half-way into the model year. January is half-way into the model year. Perhaps it is targetted for the 2005 1/2 changeover?

Yep, According to our order guides here at the dealership the sunroof option will not be available until mid-model year which would be around Dec.-Jan.

I also wanted a sunroof bad and knew it was going to be an option on the '05's back in June of this year, but I wasn't going to wait until Jan. to get a truck and besides I wanted 3:73 gears in the rear which is no longer available on the '05 1/2 ton 4x4's

I woulda killed to have a sunroof as an option when I ordered my truck. I'm jealous. I've looked into the aftermarket sun roofs....the stealerships were gonna charge $1200 to install it, which wasn't to bad of a price compared to local shops in when I lived in FL. I was just a little weary that I might get some leaks from it.

Thanks for the replies.... I was under the same impression that the sunroof was a mid 2005 build, but the system let me build the truck 4 weeks ago w/ the sunroof. So I thought that something changed. GM picked up the order even w/ 3 constraints. One was the Diesel w/ a 50% the other w/ the paint w/ a 15% and the other was the sunroof w/ a 2%. I at least have the order flagged to be built asap. They are even going to ship the truck and have it arrive a week after production. So I'm still feeling lucky about this.... I have been pressuring the dealer to pressure GM. If something changes I will post it..... I would make a donation to the UAW 598 if it shows up in DEC.

I used to have a 2001 Yukon SLT. When I bought it you couldn't get auto air and a sunroof together. The dealer offered to have a sunroof installed by a third party they did business with. It turned out perfect, actually better than the stock one in my 2003 Yukon XL (bigger and more features).

I ordered my Yukon XL 2500 w/ sunroof, for some reason you can't get snowplow package when you get sunroof. Is this true on trucks too?

I had an aftermarket sunroof in my 98 Sub and it was perfect, actually better than my Yukon. No leaks, auto close function, etc.

What does a factory sunroof add to the invoice?? I know aftermarket ones cost like $1200 or so. (hoping to get one when spring comes around). I want to make sure I don't lose my "mini console" with the map lights nor the dome light tho.

It has something to do with the roof not being strong enough when you put a plow on your truck that has a big section cut out of it.Ford used to have this problem on their older style extended and crew cab pick-ups.They would not warranty them if you put a plow on one of them if the roof buckled.Only the regular cab pick-ups were strong enough to handle a plow. The problem has since been addressed in their newer and SD models.

Thought about sunroof when getting wife a Z-71 Burban...but wanted the DVD entertainment for the kiddos (ages 6 and 4). Best option I EVER got for a vehicle...okay, maybe 4x4 was the best ever, but use DVD every day.

Made sure to order the DVD for my 2500HD.

Starting in '04 you could get both the DVD and the sunroof on the Suburbans/Tahoes and Avalances, you don't have to choose between the two like before,we have quite a few here on our lot with both! :seeya:

Sorry I took so long to get back w/ you all about the pricing. MSRP on the sunroff is $1,100.00 and invoice price is $946.00. Now since I have not received my truck I can not say this 100% but these numbers came out of the ordering system for GM. My dealer told me that the prices may change, but not by much.
