5.3 into a 91 C1500

I am thinking of swapping a late model 5.3 or 6.0 into my 91' C1500 p/u.

Has anyone done this swap?????.... what are the pitfalls???? Thank you in advance

Just a thought but I would go with the tried and true 5.7, it's all bolt on and plenty of go fast parts available aftermarket. 330hp outta the crate sounds pretty good to me.

If you want to do the swap properly, you're going to end up with basically everything engine & transmission related from your donor 5.3 or 6.0 truck. Only thing 1991 will be the body, interior, and frame/suspension.

 

You'll need the computer, all sensors, fuel tank w/ pump, etc.

 

Lots of work, but it could be a fun, rewarding project!

We did a swap of a 2000 LS1 (same as 5.3 GenIII outside, except it's alum.block) in to a 90 GMC truck. 1st. you need a new fuel pump in tank (65 lbs press),

2nd you need all acc. from donor truck including wiring, computer and oxy. sensors. 3rd. you need to have knowledge about rewiring the original truck's wiring to the new engine/trans/computer wiring. Get yourself some good wiring digrams of both. Motor mounts can be purchased from Street & Performance out of Mena, Ark. www.rotrodlane.cc they also have headers, pulleys, very nice stuff. We used a 4 core radiator w/2 electric fans. We also used a Dokota Digtal dash, that looks & works great, easy to hook up. The driveshaft will fit into the trans., but you may have to change the length. We even used the VATS key hidden away for added security. The most important is the wiring, if you are not sure, then you can purchase a wiring harness from S & P, call them 479-394-5711, ask for Lambert, tell him Francis from Baton Rouge sent you there.
